As many of you may know she suffered from several mental and... moreFrom your baby sister Sherrie...It is with a very sad and heavy heart that I write this message, however I rejoice that my dear sister Diane is finally now at peace and no longer suffering. As many of you may know she suffered from several mental and physical health issues and it helps to know that she is no longer tormented by them. My sister was a very brave and strong woman. As many of you know extremely strong willed also. She had to be, in order to accomplish all that she had over the years from college @ MSU, obtaining her Law Degree in Georgia, handling arbitrations and lawsuits all the while fighting the mental and physical health issues she had. As she got older they intensified and became unmanageable but she still persevered and insisted upon pressing on with tremendous courage until the good Lord brought her home to rest.
As I reminisce about our times together over the years so many memories flood in. I remember her visiting me in Michigan and having her 60th birthday party at the lake. She was so happy and excited to see everybody. Of course, playing pinochle was one of the first things we would do, and we played by Diane's rules and double deck of course. We got into a laughing spell over that and couldn't stop laughing, we laughed and snorted and laughed harder and harder and it was one of those laughters that was infectious and kept going and going.
I also remember when my daughter, Natalie and I went down to visit her in Atlanta, and we enjoyed going to all her favorite resale shops and hunting for estate sales. Diane was always so thoughtful, never forgetting anyone's birthday’s and sending treasures from her great finds. She was always wanting to know what everyone liked and what to get that would be something the person might like for a gift. She would tell me about all the wonderful things she would find, and we would discuss who might like what. Whenever I would visit her or when she would visit me she would always have to go through her closet and pick out things she no longer wore and want me to try them on and tell me what she liked on me and wanted me to keep.
We often would get into deep discussions about God and many times when she was going through rough spots we would pray, and she would do the same for me. Even though there were 17 years between us in age, we grew closer through the trials we each had and helped each other through.
I was very young when Diane left for college, but I do have a few memories from those earlier years though. I remember how much I looked up to her because she was so beautiful, smart and free spirited. I remember picking her up at the bus depot one year with mom and dad. I was very young at the time and admired her so much and wanted to be like her, with her long blonde hair, go-go boots, mini skirt, in college, traveling the world and so confident and independent.
As we got older Diane started to sound more and more like mom on the phone and it made me feel all warm inside. We both loved our "Mama" a ton! Can't wait until we are all together again. Until then RIP my dear sister. Say hi to Mom and all our loved ones there, until we see you all again. Big Hug.

With a nationwide pandemic putting limitations on our routine way of life, this past week has become even more difficult after receiving that fateful phone call of my sister's passing in Atlanta last week. In an age where 73 is supposed to be the new... moreWith a nationwide pandemic putting limitations on our routine way of life, this past week has become even more difficult after receiving that fateful phone call of my sister's passing in Atlanta last week. In an age where 73 is supposed to be the new (younger) 63; as a brother I'm filled with sadness that her life has ended far too soon, as well as for the fact that these past few years she has suffered so mentally and physically. My heart was saddened in the same way when my brother Art passed at the age of 54. I've learned since his passing that time has helped to ease the pain but can never make it go away. Diane's passing has and will produce the same feelings for me until it's time for the Good Lord to take me. If you are looking down while I write this Diane know that I love you! But with the sadness I feel joy for Diane because she has lived a life that has been full and storied, and that her belief in the Lord and Jesus Christ has paved the pathway for her spirit to ascend into heaven and join with family who have ascended before her, but most of all...mom. I believe it was her deepest love and desire to be with mom again that prevented struggles in her life from breaking her faith. In my eyes Diane was always one of my hero's because in spite of the overwhelming health challenges she suffered from over the past 45-years, she overcame them. Being single on most of her journey only made things harder to cope with at times. Those who really knew Diane understand this. She often said that she wished she could experience the joy of having someone (like the siblings' significant others) to share her life with. I know that I've been truly blessed!
I have so many fond memories of Diane especially at the Lake (as we called it). She was always so free spirited growing up. She was popular in High School and college. I remember huge parties in the summer at the Lake, where Art and Diane had their entire class over for swimming and outdoor games, Even the teachers came appearing more like friends than teachers! Early on she would pick on our sister Carol at times...even hit her on the head accidentally in anger with a rake while our parents were away for the weekend. Diane was so afraid and apologized profusely and Carol forgave her. One day Diane had Carol pinned down on the carpet and was teasing her and yelling "Give up?" until Carol finally pushed her off and pinned her down, repeating the same with a commanding voice. Diane gave up and they both broke out in laughter! It was the last time I ever remember the two fighting!
After she graduated I didn't see Diane much while she was getting her Master's Degree in Atlanta but was always in awe of her seemingly worldly presence before this whenever she came home from College and sharing a few of her college experiences with me. Some involved Art and Grace (Art's eventual wife) as all 3 attended Michigan State University. I regret not asking and listening to more of Art's and Diane's college stories. I am certain there are some "whoppers"!
From Diane's early days in Atlanta, I went away while in the Air Force during the Vietnam War for 4-years; however, letters flew between us and we grew a closer bond. Times were unstable and when I felt nervous and apprehensive about orders to go to Southeast Asia, it was her's (and mom's) letters and phone conversations that gave me the support and encouragement I needed. This was when I must say our bonding as brother and sister hit a new level. After leaving the service and coming home we often engaged in lengthy phone conversations sharing a great deal about many things, including our religious beliefs. I discovered that Diane was incredibly well versed in the Bible and had spiritual experiences that opened my mind. Since she was a lawyer and arbitrator, the way she could analyze her thought process and understand the word of law was uncanny regardless of where our conversations journeyed! I also learned that she had a strong desire to help those who were financially strapped and took on cases that "bigger-money" lawyers wouldn't touch! She was always so excited and satisfied whenever she won a judgement in favor of her most desperate and financially-limited clients. She even let them pay her over time for her services!
Perhaps my fondest memory was taking Diane to a Moody Blues concert in Atlanta on April 14th, 2001. My favorite band and I've seen many concerts before and after but I have to say that this was one of my most memorable. I have hanging in my man-cave a picture of Diane wearing a Moody Blues hat and neck jewelry from that concert. She wanted so much to pose in it for me. How could I have imagined back then how precious this picture is for me today (tearing up whenever I look upon it)!
My daughter Stacey shared the following and I thank her for this. She said that she believes that when a person's spirit passes on to a higher plane from this earth that the heavy baggage we've carried with us (pain and suffering) is left behind; and, our spirit passes through an aura or light and we feel all the love, joy, and rapture from those who have loved you in this life. I believe this is true so Diane...know that you are loved and missed by many!
