Yvonne Higgins-Welch was born on January 24, 1970 in Colorado, the daughter of Allene Welch. She married Arthur Wayne Bishop on August 15, 1988, in Salem, Indiana. They had three children during their marriage: Jeramiah, Krysten, and Leah. She died on March 5, 2016, in Pueblo, Colorado, at the age of 46 due to COPD. Yvonne loved the countryside and horses, she said it made her feel calm and free. She also enjoyed country music and cooking (She cooked amazing food- I can't even begin to tell you how badly I miss helping her in the kitchen). Yvonne loved doing paint by numbers. She would sit down, coffee nearby (anyone who knew her knew she loved her coffee) and would just paint for hours. The look of happiness and pride on her face when she would show someone her finished paintings was beautiful and inspiring. In the early 2000s she was employed as a CNA (certified nursing assistant) in Indiana; however, she had to retire early on due to an injury she sustained on the job. Yvonne had a passion for helping others; it is a common theme seen throughout her life. Despite being unable to physically function as she once had, she committed to volunteering at her local Rescue Squad for several years as an EMT in Lee County, VA. She often volunteered to help out her friends and family with anything they needed. She understood that sometimes it takes a village to raise kids or "stay above the water" so to say, so she gladly lended her hand to help others. Yvonne was a wonderful daughter, sister, wife, and mother. She was the kind of person to make life-long friends easily- she had an amazing personality that would always shine through and a laugh that would boom throughout your heart filling it with joy. Yvonne was truly a force to be reckoned with. She would move mountains to ensure her family and friends were always safe and happy. She was an amazing person all around and it is truly heartbreaking that she lost her life so early on. We will continue to miss her until we meet again.
