William Allen John Kempinski of North Carolina, AKA “Bill" to everyone, "Willie," to his loving mother and "Leaps,” “Daddy,” and "Pop-Pops” to his loving children and grandchildren, passed away into eternal life on Friday, January 18, 2019, with his son, Craig, at his side. Dad's mission was for all of us to remain in Jesus and hold fast to our Faith. Dad received Viaticum from his Priest, Fr. Miller just a couple of hours before he went to be with the Lord. The Last Rites are officially called the Viaticum, the sacrament of the dying.
Bill was born to parents Benedict and Agnes Kempinski, on July 27, 1943, in Brooklyn, NY. Bill attended John Jay High School, in Brooklyn NY where he boasted of a plaque in his name holding record to completing the most sit-ups. He resided on Long Island where he raised his family before moving to NC. He was a jack of many trades, holding many licenses such as electrical license, plumbing, HVAC etc. Bill was also a charismatic and witty real estate agent and broker.
Bill is survived by his first wife Marilyn Williams of Clayton, NC with whom he had three loyal and loving children, Kim Marie Mayes (Greg) of Murrells Inlet, SC; Craig Gerard Kempinski of NC; and Kris Ann Kempinski of Murrells Inlet, SC. He is also survived by his brother, Gerard Kempinski of Knightdale, NC; his aforementioned three children, his grandchildren; Autumn Marie Wiseman, Addison Phisher Wiseman and Nicholas Gregory Mayes of Murrells Inlet, SC, as well as his nieces and nephews; Lauren Shaw (Thomas) of Long Island, NY; Alisa Lycoff-Hinton (Tim) (great-nephew, Elias) of Wake Forest, NC; Andria Lycoff (and great-niece Lydia Lynch) of Boone, NC; Matt Kempinski of Raleigh, NC; Megan Parker (Phillip) (great-nephew, Wyatt and great-nieces, Charlotte and Savanna) of NC; Chip Jurgensen (Dana Ellington) of NC; sister-in-law, Janice Kempinski of Long Island, NY; and cousin Allan Kempinski of Creedmoor, NC. Bill was predeceased by his terminally ill wife for whom he cared, Myra Kempinski; his brother, Benedict Kempinski of Bluepoint, NY; and his parents, Benedict and Agnes Kempinski of Ronkonkoma, NY and Raleigh, NC.
Often compared to Rodney Dangerfield, you rarely saw Bill without a smile on his face, a joke on his tongue, and laughter in his belly. He loved to joke around and make people smile and laugh and he loved to laugh as well. He was a kind, compassionate, hard-working and loving family man. He would do anything for his children, family, friends, and even strangers. He believed in smiling at a person, even if just to brighten their day. “You never know what someone is going through, so be kind” was his motto. Bill loved working on cars, being the best dad he could to his children, and he had a great love for animals.
The funeral mass will be held on Saturday, February 2, 2019 at 11:00 AM at St. Dorothy’s Catholic Church, 148 St. Dorothy’s Ln., Lincolnton, NC 28092.
