“The Legacy”
Reflections of Life
Virginia Elizabeth (Daniels) Boyd was born on July 15, 1930 on the Cape Rock Drive Farm in Cape Girardeau, MO to the union of Clara Dell (Johnson) Daniels and Madison Daniels. Madison and Clara (mother and father), along with a brother, Albert Daniels, preceded Virginia in death. At an early age, Virginia accepted the Lord Jesus Christ and continued her purpose in faith until her spirit was received in the presence of The Spirit of God, on Monday, March 23, 2020.
Following the path to business ownership, Virginia graduated from John S. Cobb High School in Cape Girardeau, MO, where she actively excelled in her studies, was a member of the National Honors Association, member of the Marching Band, and the girls’ basketball team. Always determined, Virginia was known for overcoming obstacles. Hurdling the challenges of racism, she wrote book reports from the books of the Bible when denied access to the Public Library System. After moving to St. Louis, Virginia graduated from Tucker Business College, Urban League Training School, and Missouri Real Estate School.
Virginia Elizabeth Daniels married Stanley Boyd on August 16, 1953. To this union, they had four lovely and blessed children whom they raised in harmony and Christian faith. Also to this blissful union of 62 years, grew the development of property ownership, StanRod Construction Co., civic engagement, church leadership, and community development.
Always active, Virginia Boyd faithfully served in many capacities. She was a member of the Order of Eastern Star – Prince Hall Affiliation, Harmony Grand Chapter, and New Hope Chapter 56, a member of the Parent Teacher Association, president of the Parents Club of the St. Louis Branch of the National Association of Negro Musicians, and an active leader of the Boy Scouts of America. Striving for Black excellence and equity, Virginia worked diligently for the Urban League, protested in support of minority hiring on construction projects, and representation while serving as Board of Elections supervisor.
Being faithful to the Lord, Virginia was a member of St. James AME Church in Cape Girardeau, MO, St. Matthews AME Church, and St. John AME in St. Louis, MO. She loved her fellow church members and loved assisting in church outreach. Over the years, she was instrumental while serving. Virginia was a Stewardess, Steward, class leader, and member of the Lay Organization. In leadership, she served as the secretary of the Chancel Choir, Executive Board Member of the Women’s Missionary Society, Secretary of Duke and Duchess Couples Club and proud president of the July Club. At the height of service to the Lord, Virginia Boyd was consecrated a Deaconess in the AME church in October of 2019.
Virginia always thanked the Lord for His guidance throughout all of the years.
“The Boss” leaves her legacy of love to four children: Joyce V. Boyd, Rose M. Foster (Rev. Wallace), Stanley R. Boyd (Cassandra), Rodney E. Boyd (Alissa); ten grandchildren, twelve great grandchildren; one sister: Clara L. Daniels, and a multitude of nephews, nieces, cousins and friends. Everyone was her favorite and she would want everyone to “try to be good!”
