OBITUARY FOR TIMOTHY EDWIN YOUNG
Timothy Edwin Young was born the second son of John P. and Vivian E. Young, Jr. on August 1, 1962. Tim was an energetic and intelligent child, engaging in many activities. He attended Douglas Elementary School, where he excelled in all of his classes. He went on to Beckman Jr. High School, at which he met many of his life-long friends. Some of Tim’s greatest achievements occurred during his attendance at Roosevelt High School, where he competed in track and field. Tim also served as President of the High Y during his time at Roosevelt. After high school graduation in 1980, Tim attended Purdue University for two years before pursuing a career opportunity in California.
Tim met his first wife, Dorinda Phillips, shortly before departing for the west coast. They married in Gary, Indiana, then moved to Oakland, California, until Dorinda’s job necessitated a transfer to New Orleans. Tim and Dorinda were Louisiana residents for over twelve years before they separated. Deciding to remain in New Orleans, Tim met his second wife, Darlene Spurgeon, there. The couple resided in New Orleans until Hurricane Katrina uprooted them in 2005. Tim and Darlene then relocated to Rome, Georgia, where they remained until their separation.
During the last few years, Tim resided in Charlotte, North Carolina with his close friend, Ron Morrow. Throughout Tim’s illness, Ron was there at Tim’s side. Our family is so grateful to Ron for providing care and comfort to Tim during his final days.
Tim was preceded in death by his paternal grandparents, John P. Young, Sr. and Mayola S. Young; his father and mother, John P. Young, Jr. and Vivian Elizabeth Young; his aunts, Loretta Young and Bernice Darden; his great uncle, Ted Spann; his maternal grandparents, Dave and Lola Mae Hayes; oldest brother, Robert A.
