Tiki Dee Garnett
It is with great sadness that the Garnett family must announce the passing of Tiki Dee Garnett Thomas. Tiki passed away on Friday, October 9, 2020 at her home in Collingdale, PA.
Tiki was born to Mary Jane Garnett and Robert Hughes on April 25, 1960. She was raised and attended school in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.
Tiki was an excellent student and attended many prestigious schools during the course of her education. She attended Dental Education training school, taking courses to become Dental assistant. Years later, she took her career in a new direction more suited to her compassionate personality by becoming a nurse's aide.
On Tiki’s journey to becoming a Nurse’s Aide she attended the Delaware County Technical School in 1994 and successfully completed the Health Occupations program. In 1994, on October 17th Tiki successfully completed an educational program for Nursing Assistants. She then went on to complete the Nurse’s Aide Training course by the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania in November 1994 where she excelled and received her CNA Nursing Certificate and began working as an independent homecare giver. Tiki became the Program Supervisor for Northwestern Human Services of Delaware County/Life Guidance Services Division. Everyone at the facility loved Tiki and was sorry to see her go when she left that position.
Although Tiki never had any children of her own, she loved children. If any friends of hers or children of those friends had children, she became the surrogate aunt or godmother. She was extremely generous when it came to her immediate family and was always going out of her way to do nice things for her niece, nephew-in-law, great niece and nephew.
Tiki was generous to a fault, always there to offer her assistance whenever anyone needed it. She was always ready to lend a helping hand anyway she could whether it was by lending money or taking time to listen when someone needed to talk.
She was a very motivated and concerned citizen when it came to human and animal rights, always willing to donate money or sign a petition to help worthy causes. On July 2014 she received a Certificate of Appreciation from Easter Seals for her many generous contributions.
Tiki loved animals; dogs, cats, birds etc. She had a bird feeder in her backyard and always made sure to feed the birds and sometimes even a squirrel or two. She also, loved cats and had adopted a cat from the ASPCA two years previously and they would spend many a night cuddled up together watching movies.
In her leisure time, Tiki loved to spend time with her family, extended family and friends. Whether it meant taking long drives, singing karaoke at family events or having a movie night with her mother and sister. She also loved watching Documentaries about past and current events and on a lighter note she enjoyed reading, listening to music and watching funny cat videos on YouTube.
Tiki is predeceased by her father Robert Hughes and her grandmother Virginia Beatrice Garnett and husband, Lucas Thomas who passed away in 2006.
Tiki is survived by her mother, Mary Jane Garnett, her two brothers; D’Angelo Garnett and Tony F. Garnett, her sister De’Shantell Garnett, her niece Tunisia Bettis, nephew-in-law Robert Bettis, her great-niece Ashanti Bettis, great-nephew Elijah Bettis, her long-time companion Floyd Hill Jr. and last but not least her adopted cat Coral.
Tiki was a beautiful human being with a kind and generous spirit who was taken from us too soon. She will be missed greatly by everyone who knew her.
