Steven Jay Dean died in New Orleans, LA on Sunday, May 19th, 2019 after a long battle with lung cancer. He was 70 years old. He is survived by his two sons (Justin and Jesse) and five grandchildren (Jules, Emily, Jack, Julia, and Veronica).
Steve was born March 4th, 1949 on Mather Air Force Base just outside Sacramento, CA. He spent the next 18 years moving around as a military brat. From 1964-1967 he attended Frankfurt American High School where he traveled around Europe and had many adventures. He graduated from Southern Oregon University in 1989 with degrees in English and Education. He became a published author of poems and short stories as well as literary articles. He worked: installing safes, in a lumber mill, as a rodeo rider, as a teacher, as an insurance agent, and as a financial planner at various times.
In the end, he became a corporate trainer. He worked for a number of companies around Nashville, TN where he moved in 2001. In this role, he created training materials, taught classes and changed lives. He worked hard to help his students achieve and even encouraged a number of them to return to school. Nashville was where he truly found his home and made a life for himself.
In later life, Steve was very active in the Frankfurt American High School Alumni Association. He served as alumni association president and hosted two multi-year class reunions in Nashville. As he used to say “ with military brats; some people you met became Christmas cards from far away, and some people became family, but they all change your life”
Steven Dean will be sorely missed by his family and friends. In lieu of flowers, the family would appreciate a donation to “Hearts and Hooves” (https://www.heartsandhooves.com/ ) an organization that Steve used to volunteer for. There will be a memorial service on March 4th, 2020 in Nashville, TN.
