Shirley M. (Stewart) Scott, 84, of The Woodlands, Texas, breathed her last on July 18, 2019, surrounded by her loving family.  Born in Lorraine, Ohio to William West Stewart of Ohio and Irene Francis (Stanley) Stewart of Texas on September 25, 1934, Shirley led a life of devotion to her faith, family, work, friends, and community.

Shirley is preceded in death by both parents, sister Janice Lauder, great-grandson Grayson Haigler, and beloved husband Charles W. Scott.  She is survived by: daughter Susan L. McKinley, her husband Allan Scardina, and their daughter Audrey J. Scardina, daughter Kathy L. Haigler, her husband Glenn R. Haigler, their daughter Kristina Dunn (Darrell), and their sons Jeff Rooke, Matthew Haigler (Thamy), and Jonathan Haigler (Jennifer), as well as 15 great-grandchildren: Eddie, Caleb, Matty, Christian, Aryanna, Kacey, Camron, Josh, Jacob, Asher, Nisi, Abraham, Zachary, Micah, and Kinsley. Her former step-son Steve McKinley, his wife Marsha McKinley and their son Jacob McKinley were always considered family.  Shirley will be fondly remembered by her niece Sharon McDougald and nephew Richard Chisum.

Shirley graduated from Stephen F. Austin High School in Houston, two modeling schools, Dale Carnegie Institute, and Texas College of Theology.  She had interesting stories about working at the soda fountain in the downtown Houston Woolworth department store.  She was a member and leader of the Delphians of Pasadena, a philanthropic organization for the intellectual enrichment of young women.  She worked part-time as a stunning model since she was 12 years old, and worked as a full-time model for 10 years - even teaching as the Head Instructor at Ben Shaw Modeling Studio for some time.  Shirley loved to coordinate and serve as Commentator at Charity Balls during her modeling years.  She also judged at many local beauty pageants for young girls.  Shirley built a full-service beauty salon in Galveston called “Great Looks”, where she was a nail technician and owner/operator.  When she moved to The Woodlands she did administrative work for Texas EquuSearch, IDS Engineering (Englobal), and attorney Andy Taylor.

Shirley loved ice cream, beautiful instrumental easy-listening music, and Southern Gospel.  She collected anything which depicted butterflies, which symbolize endurance, change, hope, and life. If you knew her well you would understand the butterfly analogy. She especially loved her spoiled cat, “Ninja Turtle,” and found him to be great company after the death of her husband in 2017. Shirley was the matriarch of her family and made a lasting impression on everyone she met. 

The memorial service will be at 6:30 pm on Friday, July 26 at The Woodlands First Baptist, 11801 Grogans Mill Road, The Woodlands, TX 77380, where she attended.

Her favorite quote was: “I asked God for all things that I might enjoy life.  He gave me life that I might enjoy all things.” Shirley enjoyed life to the fullest.
