Rita Ann Kohn, age 89, passed away peacefully on December 26, 2019, surrounded by members of her loving and devoted family.
Rita was born on February 5, 1930 in Wilkes-Barre, Pennsylvania to the late John and Bella Yatsko.
She worked in the Lorstan Studios in Newark, New Jersey where she met the love of her life, Mac Robert Kohn. Rita and Mac were married for 38 years and were long-time residents of Livingston, New Jersey. They raised two children, Scott and Robin.
Rita also worked as a hostess and banquet manager at her family’s restaurants Roberto’s, Chateau Roberto and The Lamplighter in Northern New Jersey.
Rita had a passion for life and all things beautiful. She enjoyed spending time with her family, shopping, sitting in the sun, listening to music and gardening. Rita created lasting memories during her time on Daufuskie Island and Hilton Head Island, South Carolina. Her beauty and quick wit were a gift to all who knew her. Rita was known for her infectious smile, her colorful turbans and her compassionate spirit.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Mac; daughter, Robin LaFerrara; brothers, John and Ted Yatsko; and sisters, Marie Gentilesco, Irene Jacobosky and Claire Haydu.
As the heart of the family, she leaves behind a remarkable legacy and is survived by her son Scott (Bethany); son-in-law Anthony “Swede” LaFerrara; grandchildren, Kristal Sauer (Jon), Anthony “AJ” LaFerrara (Marie), Tate and Hayes Wilkinson; great-grandson Anthony LaFerrara; sister Dorothy Brady; and many nieces and nephews.
The family welcomes any and all stories, photos, and memories that Rita’s family and friends would like to share. A memorial will be held on Saturday, January 4 at 11:00am at St. Lawrence Parish in Chester, New Jersey. A Celebration of Life at The Lamplighter in Chester, New Jersey will immediately follow. Additional information on a remembrance in Hilton Head will be forthcoming.
