She sent me a birthday card every year when I was a kid with a single dollar in it, and I felt like a rich lady. She took me to my first concert at age 10 (Debbie Gibson), one of the few days in my life I felt cool. We were both born in August, and joked about August babies needing to “stick together.”
She appreciated antiques in a way few do, took her Catholic traditions seriously, made an amazing Polish dinner every year on Christmas Eve, and called me a “good girl” even when I got to my 40s.
She had a cute little laugh.
She taught me a few Polish words, including how to say “I love you,” which we said at the end of every call and visit.
