Priscilla “Honey” Carter's Life Story

To everything there is a season, a time to every purpose under the heaven.  Ecclesiastes 3:1

Chapter 1: A Time to Be Born… (Jeremiah 1:5)

Priscilla Kay Anderson was born on August 1st, 1957 in Lake City, Florida, the eighth of fourteen children born to the late Walter Raleigh and Mary Anderson.  She was raised in love by her aunt and uncle, Willie and Sarah Lee O’Neal.  Excellence was in her blood.

Chapter 2: A Time to Grow… (Philippians 4:13)

Priscilla excelled in all she did, especially academics.  She graduated from Columbia High School in 1975 at the top of her class.  She then went on to earn a bachelor’s degree in criminology in just three years from Florida State University, where she would also earn the designation of Certified Public Manager.  Priscilla was an avid reader, writer and family historian.  You might find her exploring the world through compelling John Grisham and Danielle Steel novels, developing a deeper relationship with God through various Christian devotionals and study bibles, journaling her tasks, thoughts and prayers for each day, or collecting and retelling wonderful Anderson Family stories.  Priscilla always maintained an unquenchable desire for learning and growth.

Chapter 3: A Time to Love… (Colossians 3:14)

Priscilla’s life and heart were filled with love.  She met and befriended Lynwood A. Carter at a young age.  While at Columbia High School, the outgoing Lynwood asked the studious and reserved Priscilla to go steady.  She eagerly agreed and the two were together ever since.  Lynwood and Priscilla married on April 28, 1979, shortly after she graduated from college.  After spending a handful of years establishing their budding love and blossoming careers, the two began growing their own family.  A baby girl, Leah Lynette (whom Priscilla lovingly called “Leedy Beedy”), arrived first, followed shortly thereafter by a baby boy, Lyndon Everett.  She experienced a new level of joy with the birth of her first grandchild, Brixton Luke Carter.  Priscilla’s love for her children and family transcended words. 

Chapter 4: A Time to Labor… (Ephesians 2:10)

Priscilla developed her diligent work ethic at a young age and employed it throughout her professional career.  Priscilla enjoyed a full and prosperous career with the Florida Department of Corrections, eventually retiring after 33-years of service as the Senior Circuit Administrator for probation and parole in one of Florida’s largest judicial circuits.  Her dedication and diligence earned her high esteem throughout Florida’s law enforcement community.  Still, Priscilla’s passion was helping people and serving her church.  The epitome of a servant leader, Priscilla served Shiloh Baptist Church of Orlando as a deaconess, superintendent of Sunday school, chairwoman of vacation bible school, bible study instructor, and usher board member.  Shortly after retiring from the Florida Department of Corrections, Priscilla’s passion for helping the less fortunate led her to establish and manage the Answered Prayer Ministry and Food Pantry, one of Parramore’s largest sustaining food pantry ministries, which now offers free food and service to more than 500 Parramore residents each month.  She employed that same passion and zeal in creating the Mary Anderson Scholarship Event, a family academic scholarship program designed to honor her mother’s drive, determination and pursuit of education against all odds.  God blessed and prospered the work of Priscilla’s hands.

Chapter 5: A Time to Rest… (Philippians 1:21)

After a hard, tenacious fight with cancer, God embraced Priscilla in His everlasting arms on June 24, 2019, awarding Priscilla her long sought-after wings.  She transitioned peacefully and pain-free surrounded by her loving family.  God has a reason for allowing things to happen.  We may never understand His wisdom, but we submit ourselves to his divine order.

Priscilla is deeply loved and survived by her devoted husband of 40 years, Lynwood A. Carter; loving daughter, Leah Lynette Carter; adoring son, Lyndon Everett Carter (Micaella) and grandson Brixton Luke Carter; dedicated daughter-in-Love, Ariel Carter Watson (David) and their daughter Addison Rae Watson; siblings: Constance Kelly; Beverly James, Essie Smith, Carlene Anderson, Ann Allen, Cynthia Watson, Alyce Faye Towns (Albert), Donna Manning (Basil), Harry Anderson (Connie), Warren “Gee” Anderson (Dianna), Gary Anderson (Martha), Don Anderson; along with a host of loving aunts, special and caring nieces, nephews, cousins and sorrowing friends, including the Anderson and Carter families of Lake City, Florida.
