Phil was born July 2, 1964 in Boston Massachusetts. Phil created a varied and successful career. Truly, he was somewhat of a globetrotter. From 1995 as Brand Manager for Novartis in the UK, he landed next in Basel, Switzerland. He served with Novartis as Therapeutic Area Head and later as Global Head of tissue engineering. In 2007 Phil became Country Head of Novartis in Saudi Arabia and, in 2010, Head of Pharma Services in the CIS Cluster (a former Russian Republic), later returning again to Saudi Arabia. But, Phil was much more than his resume. Phil made a difference in the lives of everyone he met. Like the dust on a butterfly’s wings, he came by this ability naturally. It was his way of being, not contrived; it imbued those of us who knew him with a deeper sense of the true value of life, a better way to live. Phil was an incredibly gifted mentor, a gentle guide. He often seemed to know the perfect thing to ask and say. Conversations with Phil often led others to self-reflect and grow. He was remarkably successful in nudging lives in a direction of self-improvement. Phil often enjoyed serious conversations with family and friends, as well as time spent with his wife, Elisa. Phil also appreciated and nurtured two traits in others—tenacity and curiosity. He will be remembered for his wit and ability to bring out the best in those around him.
He is survived by his loving wife Elisa, three siblings—Stephen, Brian, and Cathryn, and his stepchildren—Lena, James, Alec, and Michael. The joy of his presence will be dearly missed, as will the sound of his voice.

I lost touch with Phil in person after I left Novartis global marketing in 1999, much to my regret. However his name would pop up every now and again when I met up with the diaspora of 1990's global marketing - a glittering presence undimmed by distance and time. less

He came into my life as stranger who couldn’t help but lecture me, yet, he quickly became my greatest mentor. At the very beginning of our relationship, I was simply a 16 year old who had no outlook of my own future; a piece of wallpaper (as he put it), who did nothing but drift by. It wasn’t easy, but with great diligence, he helped me become someone I can be proud of; and for that, I’m forever grateful. Thank you, Phil. less

We had the pleasure of pestering each other on a daily basis, not only in our personal lives, but at the office as well. Our bond was more special than I realized and I miss it beyond measure. I recently started back to college and he was a complete and total support. His guidance was priceless. He was my accountability buddy. He had a way about him... he would pick on me like an older brother does, in all of my ventures, but if I was having a tough go at something he got serious quite quickly and made it abundantly clear he was behind me 100%. He was the watering can to all areas of my life. Always looking out and always cracking jokes at me. Of course, I tossed wit back at him and that made for some classic banter. I don't have the pleasure of going back and forth with many like I did with Phil and I had the honor and privilege to call him, not just a friend, but my brother. I will continue to grow all areas of my life and know that Phil played a roll in all of it. He inspired me and continues to do so every single day. less
