He was husband to Mary Cali. His grandchildren, Gio and Mia Cali, were the bright spot of his life. Family meant everything to him. He frequently hosted Thanksgiving and Christmas, making sure there was enough food to go around. He was always welcoming for anyone to join. Phil was a great cook, only getting meat from a butcher. He was a lover of cannolis, cannoli cake, coffee, and cigars. Phil was a real estate broker and teacher. He loved what he did. He loved his dogs, Zach and Tia. His vices included poker and diner food. He was always ready to give a laugh. He wasn't a judgemental person, unless you were a Bears fan. He loved watching football, Packers being his life-long team.
Phil was a giving, caring and helpful kind of guy. I really appreciate all that he and Mary had done for my brother Tom over the years and especially since last December when Tom went into the hospital. I cannot say Thank you enough.

I recall a recent phone conversation I had with Phil while he was in his car with his wife Mary listening in. By way of background, Phil named his real estate school "The CDL Academy," using the first letter of each of his children's names: Christopher, Dominick, and Lauren. The name of my insurance agency is Com-Co. I told Phil that "CDL" wouldn't be a good name for a real estate school since it's a common abbreviation for Commercial Driver's License. I explained that he would be receiving calls from aspiring truck drivers rather than potential real estate students. I had a idea for a better name, inspired by his wife Mary's previous surname, Grey: Change the name to "Grey's Academy." Phil told me that it one of the dumbest ideas he had ever heard. To Phil's surprise, and perhaps to have a little fun, Mary jumped in and agreed with me and said that Grey's Academy would be a great name. Of course Phil would have none of it. Instead of changing the name of the academy, he insisted that it would be a better idea if I changed the name of my insurance agency to "Grey's Com-Co." Those of you who knew Phil, knew that he would always fight back and get in the last word. less

For one thing Phil loved poker and we played many times to together each taking turns gettng the best of one another. As much as he loved poker he would not play on a religious holiday.
I thought of Phil his weekend as we visited Shrine of Our Lady of Guadalupe in La Crosse Wisconsin yesterday during our motorcycle trip. We lit a candle there in memory of Phil. RIP and I hope you are at the tables on the clouds playing and getting the best of the legends. less
