Patrick Scott Hensley passed away peacefully on December 8, 2019 surrounded by his loved ones on St. Croix. Pat was a loving husband to his wife, Patty, and an amazing father to his two sons, Scott and Kevin.
Pat grew up on St. Croix and lived much of his life sailing the sea. He had a passionate spirit that guided him through many years of exploring the world. Many of Pat’s memories that he fondly spoke about involved traveling with Patty, Scott, Kevin and his wonderful family and friends.
Pat has left an incredible legacy through his family, friends, businesses and community. He had a passion for helping others and his role as a father figure extended to many. Pat’s parents, Howard and Rosemary, started H.H. Tire & Battery in 1964 and Pat took over the operations in 1974. Since then, his son, Kevin, has taken over the family businesses and continues to operate them today. The H.H. Tire & Battery team has always been an extension of Pat’s own family and not a day goes by where a memory of his time there isn’t mentioned.
Pat and Patty relocated to the states in 2012 when Pat began his tireless journey to fight cancer. Although they were physically away from their island home, their contributions to St. Croix always remained in the minds and hearts of the community. Pat was able to return on many occasions to enjoy the smell of the sea, sounds of the waves and warmth of the sun. One of his last trips to the island was for the wedding of his son, Kevin, to Rebecca Boulanger (now Hensley) in 2017. He was able to see a multitude of family and friends during a week of events that we will always cherish.
One of Pat’s most obvious traits in the most recent years was his drive to never give up. His determination and perseverance was truly one to marvel. Pat is an inspiration to so many individuals and continues to live on through them every day.
Pat’s memory remains with his immediate family of Patty, Scott, Kevin and Rebecca as well as his brothers, Michael and Charles (Chick) plus extended family of four sister-in-laws, Lynn Tracey, Jan Etre, Pam Etre-Perez and Lisa Etre. Through his brothers and sister in-laws, Pat’s family includes his nieces and nephews: Cathy Woodley, Lynda Moorby, Jason Hensley, Michael Tracey, Matthew Tracey, Paco Perez, Tony Perez, Daniel Foster, Jennifer Hensley, Alex Hensley and Christopher Scatliffe.
A celebration of Pat's life will be on Tuesday, December 17th at the Deep-End Restaurant from 4-7pm.
In lieu of flowers and in keeping with Pat's love of supporting the community, his family has requested that any donations be made to the St. Croix Dolphins and/or Good Hope Country Day School. Pat was passionately involved with both these non-profits during his life on St. Croix.
