Michael John Brennan, 71, of Wilmington, NC, passed away on August 6, 2020.
He was born to the late John Brennan and Eileen Barry Brennan on April 17, 1949 in New York City.
A loving father and beloved friend and community member, Michael was a lifetime New Yorker at heart. He is remembered for his love of his Irish ancestry and his devotion to Christ.
His family remembers his childhood stories of trips to Rockaway beach and his endless quest to find the best hot dog restaurant in America.
As a father and husband, Michael cherished family vacations, preparing holiday meals, and countless hours cheering and playing sports with his children.
Michael received his PhD in Experimental Psychology in 1978 from SUNY Binghamton University. He dedicated his career to the advancement of pharmaceutical research and was a key member of various FDA/PhRMA Task Forces.
In retirement he moved to Wilmington, NC, achieving his lifelong dream of living by sea.
Wherever he went, Michael became a treasured part of the communities he joined, from the choir at St. Patrick’s Church in Malvern, PA to the book and prayer clubs at Carolina Bay in Wilmington. Michael endeavored to strengthen the bonds within his communities and became lovingly known as the “Catholic Taxi” because of his willingness to drive friends from Carolina Bay to mass at St Mark’s.
Michael is survived by his son, Timothy and wife Diana of Atlanta; his son Kevin of Philadelphia; Patricia Toussaint of New Hope, the mother of his children; and his sister, Maureen and husband TC of Wilmington. He also survived by a number of extended relatives in Ireland.
A celebration of life service will be held virtually on August 14, 2020. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the PKD Foundation in memory of Michael’s courageous fight against Polycystic Kidney Disease.
Until we meet again, may God hold you in the palm of His hand.
