Loving mother, grandmother, sister, aunt, and friend

Margaret Pina (DeRosa) of Billerica passed away peacefully just before her 78th birthday on Sunday, December 27, 2020. 

Born in 1943, Margie is the cherished wife of the late John J. Pina and daughter of the late Pasquale and Catherine (O’Keefe) DeRosa. Doting mother to John J. Pina II and Laura Walker, Margie is the beloved sister of Patricia Caswell and her late husband Edward Caswell and Raymond DeRosa and his late wife Helen (Gorham) DeRosa. Margie cherished her two granddaughters Katherine and Abigail Walker with whom she spent most of their childhood years making beautiful, funny memories. Margie is also survived by treasured nieces, nephews, and countless friends. Margie was a warm, kind, caring, thoughtful, and fun-loving mother, sister, aunt, and friend who will be deeply missed by all who knew her.  

A 1960 graduate of Billerica Memorial High School, Margaret was known as “Termie” to her high school friends - many of whom she remained in close contact with throughout her life. Known for always having a smile on her face and for telling great stories, her magnetic charm lit up any room she was in. She was the life of every party and a stranger to no one, always trying to make people smile or laugh.  

Margie loved to travel and spent many years visiting and traveling with her mother, siblings, friends, son, daughter, and granddaughters from Manhattan to Tampa and San Diego and many places in between - even to Europe! She told great stories about the 1982 trip to Ireland with her mom and sister and their Alabama/Tennessee road trips in the early 1990s. She’ll go down in infamy for saying to the people of Barcelona and Granada Spain “Ole” (a bull’s encouragement) instead of “Ola” (hello).  As much as she liked to make people laugh, she also enjoyed laughing at herself. No matter how silly she had to be to get someone to smile, she befriended literally everyone who crossed her path.  

And Margie loved to dance.  She would dance with anyone anytime and if she had no partner, she would dance solo. Through the years, she entertained everyone with her moves.  She even danced with her hospital nurses.   

To the end, she remained an energetically affectionate and generous person: she was beloved at the nursing home by fellow patients and staff alike, and the nurses who cared for her at the end were thoroughly charmed. Margie’s magic touched many people, and she will live forever in our hearts.  

Family and friends are cordially invited to gather and share memories with Margaret's family at the Barile Family Funeral Home, 482 Main St., Stoneham on Saturday January 2, 2021 from 8:00 a.m. to 10:00 a.m.. Parking attendants and an elevator are available. Due to Covid-19 Restriction, masks must be worn at all times.

A Funeral Mass Celebrating Margaret's Eternal Life will be held at St. Patrick's Church, 71 Central St., Stoneham on Saturday January 2, 2021 at 10:00 a.m. Interment will follow at Lindenwood Cemetery, Montvale Avenue, Stoneham.
