Consistent with the vision of their founder Danny Thomas, no child is denied treatment based on race, religion or a family's ability to pay.
St. Jude’s strives to be the world leader in advancing the treatment and prevention of catastrophic diseases in children, by providing outstanding patient care; conducting basic, translational and clinical research designed to elucidate biological mechanisms, understand disease pathogenesis, improve diagnosis, enhance treatment outcome, prevent diseases and minimize adverse consequences of treatment; and by educating health care and scientific research professionals. Treatments invented at St. Jude have helped push the overall childhood cancer survival rate from 20% to more than 80% since it opened more than 50 years ago. less

Judith was born on December 6, 1944, in Des Plaines, Illinois the daughter of George and Caroline Kasanda.
Judith was a dedicated mother and grandmother first and foremost. She treasured her children and grandchildren embracing every moment she was able to experience with them. Her love and compassion were not contained to only those in her family. From the beginning, being a schoolteacher, she imparted that love and compassion to her students. She also was one of those people in the neighborhood that everyone, both children and adults loved to be around. Her warm heart, caring nature and boundless energy was infectious and knew no bounds. She kept herself busy and the family’s bellies full through her cooking and baking which was unmatchable. She was a loving mother, grandmother, neighbor, and friend that will be missed by those that knew her intimately and those that had the rare chance to be in her presence. She is survived by her son, Duane (Eva) Osburn, and daughter, Deanna (Michael) Douglass, and by her two grandchildren, Darcy and Darien. She is also survived by her sister, Carol Gruen. She was preceded in death by her parents.
