She was born in Wilmington DE on September 17th, 1953 to Kavion and Whitney Johnson. What a glorious day that was. She graduated from Wilmington High School in 1971. Although she did not go to college she was very knowledgeable and always knew what to do in certain situations. She was a very caring and loving woman. If you met her once you would never forget her. She would always have a smile on her face whenever you would see her. No matter what you were going through you could always count on her to cheer you up. She moved to Atlanta Georgia in 1974. She was very excited to start a new life in a new state. She got a job working with her cousin Marley, who ran a family owned motel. She worked there for years and was very happy. Unfortunately in 1982 her cousin became very sick and soon passed from Sepsis. After that, Joyce took over the motel and kept it running. She is survived by her husband Wesley Parker. She met Wesley in 1992 who was actually one of the occupants at her motel. He kept coming back every week to see her. They soon began dating each other. Eventually she married Wesley in 1995. They did not have kids as Joyce was unable to at the age she was when they did get married. They were happily married for 24 years. Joyce loved kids so the love she had went towards her nieces and nephews. In her spare time she liked to do gardening and cooking. She would always call a family reunion every summer to get everyone together. Family was very important to her. In July 2018 she was diagnosed with Lung Cancer. Which she kept a secret for months. She finally told her family she was sick in October 2018. She knew she was getting worse and she couldn’t hide it anymore. She passed in her Atlanta home surrounded by her husband and some of her sisters and brothers. She will be missed but she will not be forgotten.
