"The spirit is beyond destruction. No one can bring an end to spirit which is everlasting." - Bhagavad Gita
On Feb. 3, 2021, Jashan Chhatlani, beloved father and a friend to almost everyone he met, went into cardiac arrest on the way to a doctor appointment and did not regain consciousness. After spending 12 days on a ventilator in the hospital, he peacefully departed this life.
He is survived by his daughter Jennifer (son-in-law Jason Rosado), son Brenden and nine-year-old grandson Nate, as well as his former wife Susan, sister Nirmala, brothers Atmaram, Ram and Ramesh, cousin Heman, several nieces and nephews, and other relatives and longtime friends across the world.
Jashan loved to attend his local Krishna temple, laugh, tell stories, travel, watch old Indian movies, follow politics in India and the U.S., and make new friends wherever he went. He also had a heart of gold, deeply caring for and trying to find ways to help those who were hurting in any way, from offering an ear to someone struggling with a big decision to always making sure he had cash in his pocket to give to anyone he may encounter on the street who may be homeless or impoverished. Even if he didn't personally have a lot, he was always the first person to give or share whatever he did have.
Throughout his adult life, Jashan had the utmost faith and devotion in Lord Krishna, and we take comfort in knowing he is now in his care.
Due to COVID-19 precautions, an online memorial service will be held in lieu of an in-person funeral on Saturday, February 27 at 9 p.m. Eastern/New York time (7:30 a.m. India time on Sunday, February 28) to honor Jashan's life and memory. Zoom details are on this page on the right side under "Events."
