The Celebration of Life Memorial for James V. Phillips, Jr.
James V. Phillips, Jr., retired head football and wrestling coach of Morgan State University (1973 – 2004), and co-captain of the University’s All-Star football team that broke racial barriers and won the National Collegiate Athletic Association’s 1966 Tangerine Bowl, died in Orlando, Florida, Monday, July 22, 2019 at the age of 75. A public memorial service will be held at noon on Saturday, August 17, in the Calvin and Tina Tyler Ballroom at Morgan State University’s (MSU) Student Center, 1700 E. Coldspring Lane, Baltimore, MD 21251. A reception will follow the service in the Center.
