She was an only child but she created her own family. You were instantly her sister. Instantly her brother. Instantly her baby. Instantly her child. You were family if you knew Ms. Iris.
She was intelligent. She walked across the stages of CVS High School in 1967 and Kennedy King College in 1970.
She was a "Jill" of many trades. Hard working and brave. Business Woman, CPA, Office Manager, Cross country 18-Wheeler Truck Driver, Bus Driver and amazing cook!
She was a woman of Faith. Saved at a young age, she used her beautiful voice to speak and sing praises to the Lord.
She was style. She was grace. She was smooth on the skates.
She was beauty. She was feisty. She was a fighter. She did things her way.
She was an African queen. Always adorning her head with a matching headpiece. A simple scrap of fabric was creatively transformed into a crown.
She was a Diva. Jazzy from head to toe. Headband, clip on earrings, long bedazzled nails, purse and shoes all topped off with coco butter flawless chocolate skin and salt & pepper hair braided down her back.
She was a dancer. Effortlessly swaying across the dance floor to her favorite Luther & Anita songs.
She was a writer. Her massive collection of pens and notebooks were used to script her life stories.
She was a Wordsmith, crossword puzzle connoisseur, dominoes dominator, card game champion, avid reader, music lover, creative mind, thrifty shopper, and animal whisperer.
She was a wife. Married to Norman Simington.
She was a proud mother of Angelia, Arnail (Frank), Viada (Chris), Vaughan, and Virgil.
She was a proud grandmother of Llyneil, Eric, Dion, Iesha, and Shaunte.
She was a proud great grandmother of Imani, Derrion, Isis, Jenelle, Ivion, Iyanna, Imaya, and Camilla.
She was Lovable. Truly loved by all who knew her.
On Saturday. May 30, 2020, Iris went to be with the Lord.
