Ian studied at Barnet College and then undertook an apprenticeship at GEC computers before going on to work as a computer engineer with Hewlett-Packard.
He and Lorraine met at a company dance at GEC and were married at Saint Michael’s and All Angels in Borehamwood in 1985, they set up home in Tenby Rd, Edgware and then at Sefton Avenue in Mill Hill.
Blessed with two children, Paul and Christian.
It was 18 months ago that Ian was diagnosed with cancer. He still carried on doing the things he enjoyed but after Christmas he took a turn for the worse and was admitted to hospital.
Ian passed away peacefully in his sleep on the 9th March surrounded by his family.
Ian was practical, clever, kind and always willing to help others. A devoted husband, father and grandfather, and a loyal friend – he is going to be missed so very much by all whose lives were privileged to have been touched by his.
I have only just found out about Ian’s passing, it has shocked me. I worked with Ian on and off for many years at HP and afterwards in London. Ian was a lovely guy and always very professional, a pleasure to work with. Condolences to Ian’s family

In recent years he had really got into archery and seemed to become quite proficient - winning competitions etc. He was quite proud of that!

Ham you were a true gent, I don't think I ever heard a negative word from you in 28 years & that is some achievement considering some of the challenges that work has thrown at us! I remember you once telling me that you were considering moving your family up to Milton Keynes where I live, I tried my best to give you a glowing review of the City but then you changed your mind, I hope it wasn't something I said!!! You will be sadly missed mate, rest in peace x PS pics courtesy of our resident drinking photographer Wilko less

Shaun, all true words, we were all privileged to know and enjoy a pint or two with Ian, it is a testament to the gent that the world would be a better place if we were all a bit more like Ian.
I was privileged to have Ian as my shift partner back in the days when we worked horrible 12 hour shifts at HP. He was always very competent and would invariably be up to something clever work-wise or some clever project at home, like making his own windsurfing board etc.
My ideas weren't always so good. I remember talking him into riding up to Donnington Park on our motorbikes to watch some racing back in the late 90s. When we got there it started to rain and just kept raining for the rest of the day. We couldn't even drown our sorrows in the beer tent as we had to ride home again afterwards. Happy days! Ian will be sadly missed. less

Always a cool, calm thinker who was not afraid of tackling anything that was thrown at you. I remember you walking up Cheapside with your mirror aviator shades on and a crisp white shirt just looking cool. You liked your pint and when I became your shift partner I was relieved to know I had an expert at the end of the phone if I needed you. As a fellow musician we could swap notes and talk guitars an amps. I loved it that you became an expert in every hobby or project you got involved in apart from the time you lost your drone in a tree somewhere and never found it! You were a tower of a bloke, a true gentleman and I am privileged to have had you in my life. Sleep well my friend Ham Xx less
