Owen Rose Garden was my grandma's favorite place to visit. The rose garden enhances the senses with the beautiful colors of the roses, the fragrant floral scents and the sound of the nearby Willamette River. I feel that honoring her life here will put her memory at rest and peace.
This will be an informal celebration of Hattie with a spreading of her ashes within the garden. We will also be celebrating her 90th birthday! Lunch and beverages will be provided as we all share our memories of her.
Many family and friends are on the East coast and with the unfortunate pandemic, travel may be difficult. I would love to see anyone that can be there, as it would be an opportunity for many of us to meet for the first time.
Thank you in advance for anyone that chooses to donate towards the costs. The plan is to keep it simple, provide enough food for those that can attend and create a lasting memory by purchasing a plinth with her name in the rose garden. I have listed all costs on the donation page.
I have created a GatheringUs memorial to celebrate the life of my grandmother Hattie Ruth Parks. Collecting your stories and memories here will honor her life and family. As I plan the details of her Celebration of Life I will post details and updates here. Thank you for contributing to this lasting memorial.

Hattie Ruth Parks was born August 31, 1930 in Wrightsville, GA. She passed away peacefully in her sleep on April 1, 2020 in Cottage Grove, Oregon.
Hattie loved Oregon and enjoyed walking through the rose garden and sitting by the Willamitte River. She loved gardening and plants. Football season and cooking were always a big deal and she looked forward to enjoying it with her family. She spent the majority of her life taking care of others, working in the hospital and as an in-home caretaker for the elderly. She had a strong faith in the Lord, lived by her faith and set that example for those around her.
She ensured that others spent their last years well taken care of. In return, she spent her last years in the care of Maureen at Guardian Angel Elder Care. Maureen was absolutely her "guardian angel" and treated Hattie like family, ensuring she had everything she needed.
Hattie will be missed for her spunky personality and the lifelong memories she created with her family. She will forever be remembered for her perseverance to keep on going no matter what life threw at her. She taught the importance of determination and that there is always a solution for every problem. We love her so much and will always honor her and the years of memories she gave us.
Glenda has mailed grandma's ashes to me. She is taking a journey across the country for the last time, Georgia to Las Vegas. I am awaiting her arrival and can't wait to take her back to Oregon so she can rest peacefully.
The park reservation has officially been made! August 31, 11am-2pm. Grandma's passing has been difficult but even in the dark times there is light and her light has created a long overdue family reunion. I can't wait to see everyone and celebrate grandma's life.
This is what grandma's memory tile will look like. I chose a West facing direction because she loved the West Coast and watching the sunset. It will be installed this month, can't wait to see it!
Thank you to Glenda for contributing $1200 towards the celebration! Slate tile has been ordered and once I get the proof I will post a photo here. I will be able to make the park reservation on July 6 and will post an update then.
