On Jan 21, 2021, while suffering from late stage Alzheimer’s disease, Felix caught and finally succumbed to COVID-19 at the Revera Valley Stream Retirement Residence in Ottawa, Ontario at the age of 90.
Among his favourite things to do were sailing, researching family history, fixing and building things around the house and sitting back with a glass of wine. He particularly loved the family cats.
Born on April 28th, 1930 in Budapest Hungary, Felix and his parents moved to Gmunden, Austria in 1938 where he grew up until he emigrated to Canada in 1951. After becoming a Canadian citizen he changed the family name to something he thought more simple and Canadian — Game.
As a young immigrant he worked in a number of fields including mining, construction, auto parts and real estate until he found a career in the finance business working for Household Finance Corporation (the IBM of the finance world at that time). In 1967, he moved to Ottawa after winning a national Federal Government competition as one of the government’s first Computer Systems Analysts. He worked there till his retirement in 1991.
By that time in his life he had already jumped into the world of genealogy. With a systems analyst’s mind, fluency in four languages and the ability to read old European script writing, he began researching and documenting his European family history. This culminated in the hardcover publication of “The Game Ancestry” in 1997. The pages specific to Felix’s early life can be found in the online 2nd edition published circa 2008 The Game Ancestry - A History of Zwierzina and Farsang Families - by Felix G. Game
Felix was predeceased by his parents Emil Anton (Zwierzina) and Katalin (Farsang), his 1st wife Adrienne (born Lanthier), a stepson Robert Heffernan and his grandson Cory (Game).
Felix is survived by his 2nd wife Jean (born Lemke), his three sons, Mark (Christiane Séguin), Vance (Dayle Baich) and Todd (Marlene Rosychuck), his 7 grandchildren Chad (Game), Jasmine (Minary), Amy (Baich), Ryanna (Baich) Ashton (Baich), Justin (Madland) and Andrea (Kuchera), and his 5 great-grandchildren William (Trudel-Game), Ethan (Weiss), Hayden Felix (Weiss), Logan (Madland) and Darcy (Robinson). Felix was also survived by two stepsons David Heffernan (Patricia Gallagher) and Scott Heffernan of whom he was fond.
The family would like to extend our gratitude to all the caregivers and staff at Valley Stream for their ongoing skill and compassion while caring for Felix.
Due to the pandemic lockdown there will be no services. In memory of Felix, donations to the Ottawa Humane Society (ottawahumane.ca) would be appreciated.
