On Friday, May 1, 2020, Graydon Cresswell, loving husband and father, passed away at the age of 82 at Sunnybrook Hospital, Toronto, of acute myeloid leukemia. Graydon was born on March 5, 1938, in Huntsville, Ontario and as a preacher’s kid, he moved many times with his father, the Reverend Arthur Eric Cresswell, a minister of the United Church, Ruth Stanier Cresswell, a teacher, his brother, Eldon, and his sister, Glennys. Graydon was the last surviving member of his family. Graydon graduated from Laurier University and taught in both elementary and junior high schools in North York. It was at Rippleton Road Public School where he met his future wife, Anna-Jean Moore, a teacher at the same school. They married in 1965 and four years later, Graydon resigned to complete a master’s degree in Canadian history at the University of Toronto. Due to declining enrolment, he was unable to find a teaching position, so he trained as a stationary engineer at George Brown College. Graydon was the proud and loving father of a son, Peter Graydon Cresswell, a systems design engineer, and a daughter, Erica Ruth Cresswell a teacher in Surrey, BC. Graydon will be greatly missed by his wife of 55 years and his children as well as his niece, Kendra Dunlop (Brock), his nephews Robert Cresswell (Kim) and Crawford Smith (Jen).
