Mr. Emmanuel Ifeanyichukwu "Anyi" Anyadike was born on April 17, 1946, to Pa Lawrence and Mrs. Eunice Anyadike (both of blessed memory) in Ifite Nanka, Anambra State, Nigeria. In 1978 he married a lovely damsel, Njideka Onyemobi who, during a blissful union, presented him with five wonderful children: Obinna, Chinonso (Adaobi), Kosisochukwu, Ikenna and Anuli (Nnenna), who are now pursuing flourishing careers in and out of Nigeria.
Emmanuel attended St. James Anglican Primary School, Nanka; progressed to St. Augustine's Grammar School, Nkwerre, Orlu, Imo State and completed his Lower Six at St Patrick’s, Asaba, before the Nigeria-Biafra war broke out. After the war, he rounded off his Upper Six studies at Government College, Afikpo at their temporary site in Enugu. For his university education, he attained the distinction of being in the first-ever set of students to study Quantity Surveying in a Nigerian university - in 1971 he was admitted to Ahmadu Bello University and graduated as a Quantity Surveyor in 1974. From there he joined the second set of NYSC, following the pioneer set of 1973. He was posted to the then Southeast State (now Cross River and Akwa Ibom) where he served in Calabar in the Ministry of Works. He was a special blessing as this was the first time the State enjoyed the services of a Nigerian-trained Quantity Surveyor.
On 10th October 1990, the Quantity Surveyors Registration Board of Nigeria registered him as a qualified Quantity Surveyor no. 036, and he continued to take an active part in the Nigerian Institute of Quantity Surveyors, serving in various capacities, including presenting several papers on cost control and construction industry-related topics.
Emmanuel diligently pursued life-long education, gaining a Master of Business Administration from the University of Lagos (UNILAG), as well as a Diploma in Land Law, also from UNILAG.
He built his career with Associated Quantity Surveyors (AQS) and rose to become the Managing Partner. He later joined PROMACO Associates, an international consortium of consultants in the construction industry as the Managing Director. In 2004 he established his own practice, Costel Quantity Surveyors, from which he retired in 2017.
Through the years Mr. Anyadike belonged to various civic, community and networking groups, rising to positions of influence and authority,
always displaying godly wisdom in forging friendships and stimulating growth. He earned a noble reputation as a peacemaker who would always use wise words to douse a tense situation. As an evident philanthropist he helped countless people achieve their dreams of gaining academic qualifications or starting a business. He touched so many lives for good.
He served as the President of the Association of Anambra State Development Unions (AASDU), as well as Vice-President, Ndigbo Lagos.
By heritage and experience Emmanuel was a disciple of Jesus Christ, a faithful witness sharing his testimony-filled life, and ministering to all in his orbit. As usual, he pursued knowledge and prepared himself by attending Bible College. The record of his unbroken service in the Lord's vineyard is long; below are a few highlights:
- A life member of the Full Gospel Business Men's Fellowship International (FGBMFI);
- Pioneer President of the Executive Chapter of FGBMFI, Victoria Island, Lagos.
All glory to God!
The oldest of four children, he was a big brother to his three sisters: late Mrs. Maudline Adachie, Dr. (Mrs.) Edith Ezeike, and Mrs. Ngozi Onyemuchara. He is also survived by two grandsons - Noah Ifeanyi and Zac Obinna, 13 nephews and nieces, as well as other extended family members.
Emmanuel passed away on January 3, 2023, in Atlanta, Georgia, USA, at the ripe age of 76.
