A devoted and loving mother, grandmother, wife and registered nurse, Ellen passed away on April 25, 2020. She died peacefully in her home surrounded by her husband of almost 59 years and her two daughters.
She is survived by her husband, Theodore Fong, her four children, her four grandchildren and her two sons-in-law, Amer and Ron.
She was born and raised in Bangkok, Thailand and always seemed to enjoy warm and humid weather over cold weather throughout her life.
When she was 15, she traveled to the US to join her mother, Helen Peng Fong in Angwin, CA.
An excellent student, she finished her high school studies at the top of her class and started nursing school at Loma Linda University.
She decided to put her nursing dreams on hold to start a family and soon became a mother of four children within 7 years!
She encouraged all her children to pursue their dreams and education to the fullest.
Michael, a special needs adult, is a huge car enthusiast. Kevin is a software engineer at Intuit. Cheryl is an internal medicine/hospitalist physician and Linda, her youngest, is an optometrist with her own private practice in Eagle Rock.
Despite all the hard work and time she put into raising her children, she made time for herself and pursued her bachelors degree in nursing at Cal State University in Sacramento.
She worked as a cardiac intensive care nurse at UC Davis Medical Center, Kaiser South Sacramento, and later Southern California Kaiser as an ER nurse. She was loved by all - colleagues and patients alike.
She was blessed with four grandchildren whom she adored and doted over throughout their lives.
Andrew, Marc, Kira and Caelyn had the best grandma in the world!
Over the past 3 years, she became ill with a lung condition with no obvious cause or cure. She persevered on even after a prolonged hospital stay in 2018.
Although she was not as active as she would have liked, she continued to enjoy her life and her family.
She was bright, clever and thoughtful to the end, thinking of others and giving thanks for all her family and loved ones.
We will miss her deeply.
