Loving husband, father, and grandfather, Edwin Frithjof Streed passed away on Wednesday, April 24, 2019 comforted by family and friends at his home in Livermore, CA. Ed was 81 years old; born on August 20, 1937 in rural Appleton, Minnesota. He graduated from high school in Franklin, Minnesota in 1955 as class Valedictorian. Ed attended St. Cloud State University and graduated with a degree in math and physics. While attending college at St. Cloud, Ed met his bride-to-be, Margaret (Peggy) Osterberg from Kensington, MN. The couple was married on August 1, 1958 in Kensington, Minnesota. They celebrated their 60th anniversary in 2018.
The newly-weds moved to Little Falls where Peggy taught first grade and Ed student-taught while finishing his Bachelor’s Degree. The couple moved to Wadena in 1960 where Ed taught high school math and chemistry, (and also worked on his Masters Degree from NDSU). Peggy taught elementary music. While the couple lived there, they welcomed their son, Michael into their family in 1964.
They moved to Menomonie, Wisconsin where Ed taught mathematics at University of Wisconsin-Stout, and Peggy taught reading at an elementary school. While the couple was in Menomonie (1967), they welcomed a daughter, Elizabeth, into their family. The couple then moved to Tempe, Arizona to complete Ed’s PHD in Higher Education Administration. He graduated from ASU in Tempe and moved back to Minnesota to begin as Financial Aid Director at Anoka Ramsey Community College. By the time he retired in 1999, he was Vice President and Academic Dean of Anoka Ramsey College.
Ed took great pleasure playing his trumpet for 14 years traveling and performing with the Minnesota Over 60 Band. He also enjoyed golfing, bowling, spending as much time as possible with his grandchildren, and playing Bridge with Peggy. He was a proud long time member of the Anoka-Coon Rapids Optimist Club.
In October 2015, Ed and Peggy relocated to Livermore California to be near their daughter and her twin boys, Colton and Kaleb. Ed enjoyed nearly 4 years of their baseball games, bowling, and just spending time together.
Ed is survived by his wife of over 60 years, Peggy; his son, Mike and family of Andover, MN; and daughter, Beth (Elise) and her sons Colton and Kaleb of Livermore, California. He is also survived by brother, Harvin Strid and family of Banning, California, sisters Helen Ginther and family of Palm Desert, California, Audrey Furman and family of Apple Valley, MN, and sister-in-law Elaine Streed and family of Newberg, Oregon. Also survived by sisters-in-law Roberta Osterberg of Estes Park, Colorado and Anne O’Flynn of Elbow Lake, MN.
He is also survived by a wonderful group of friends.
Ed was preceded in death by his parents Helen and Frithjof Strid, brother Dennis Streed, and two siblings who died as youngsters.
