Edward, known as Ed to his friends and Eddie to his family, was a man with a zest for life. A passionate man with an indomitable spirit, he was an active member of his community, especially enjoying SIRS and the Pleasant Hill Tennis Club during his golden years. His early years spent in Chicago, where he stayed to raise his family with their mother Grace, and his “second act” in California with family close by and many new, lasting friendships. He was a self-made, first-generation American and was so proud of his family and the life he built for himself. He was a loquacious raconteur, always ready with a great story or joke. He was an ardent lover of many types of music, especially opera and classical, loved reading and old films. He loved to travel, especially in Mexico and Spain, and counted himself lucky to have met so many wonderful friends over the years. He was a dedicated bullfighting aficionado and lover of la fiesta brava, which brought many wonderful friends and memories into his life. He will be dearly missed by his many friends, his beloved companion Era, and his family.

Ed and I go back to Spain in the early '60's when there was still remnants of Old Spain. He loved HER and always did HER honors with his aficion and sense of tradition. Like Paco Cano , Ed was a GIANT in a small body. Always a good word, always a friendly smile and most of all always a marvelous story to share.
I last saw him the year he came to Pamplona and stood the curva like the Warrior he was without moving an inch or blinking an eye and smiling when the Bulls passed as if he were already in Heaven.
He joins the ranks of our beloved friends who have gone to the Big Tendido before him and where , I am certain, he has a sol y sombre seat happily awaiting him.
Pray San Fermin guides him gently to it.

I noticed one by an author I was familiar with, Barnaby Conrad, who once owned El Matador, a famous Broadway Street Bistro in my home town of San Francisco. Ed noticed me and told me to open the book to a specific page; I did so, and what I saw was a picture of a cloud of dust and just barely, a small figure holding a cape and facing a gigantic, snorting, powerful-looking Bull! The huge animal, head down and puffing into the ball of dust. Ed said casually, "that's me in a Bull Ring in Madrid! " My admiration was immediate; I thought, " Wow, he must have nerves of steel!"
Goodbye Ed! we miss you. Tony de Losada and Peggy Watkins less
