Dolores Miller nee Adams, a life-long resident of the Baltimore area, died on Friday the 24th of January, 2020. She was 92 years old.
Born in 1927, Dolores was a faithful servant of Jesus Christ who lived a life of devotion to her church and her family. She was a member of Lakeland Presbyterian Church, where she served as an Elder, Deacon, Clerk of Session, Sunday School teacher, and choir member for more than sixty years. Dolores worked as the church’s secretary for nearly forty years. To quote a close friend from the church, “She was the glue that held the church together.”
A child at heart, Dolores loved children and they adored her in return. She worked as a school teacher at Old Mill Christian Academy and childcare worker at Severna Park Racquetball and Fitness Club.
Skilled in typing and the lost art of shorthand note-taking, she worked as a secretary at Ellicott Machine Corporation for twenty years.
Dolores was a witness to some of the most pivotal times in our nation’s history. She came of age during the Great Depression and told stories of her mother making her dresses out of chicken feed sacks. She often reminisced about her time working at Fort Eustis in Newport News, VA during World War II.
As a young woman, she could be found strolling the boardwalk of Atlantic City in her best dress. She loved to dance and brought a smile to everyone around her with her infectious laughter.
She was predeceased by parents, Helen and Carroll Adams, cousins and adopted sisters Emma and Pauline Turner, husbands Robert Helmrich and Frank Miller, infant son, Robert Alton Helmrich and infant twin daughters.
She is survived by her daughter Bobbie Jo Dell’Acqua (Mark), adopted daughter Rose Tillman (Gino), her grandchildren, Heather Metzger Ablondi (Steven), Justin Metzger, and Jordan Metzger (Rachel) and great-grandchildren, Abigail, Bethany, Olivia, and Naomi Ablondi, and Lincoln and Madeline Metzger.
Her family will forever be grateful for all of the sacrifices she made on their behalf. From sitting through endless dance recitals for her daughter, Bobbie, to stepping in to help raise her three grandchildren, the bounds of her love and devotion knew no end. They will also be eternally grateful for all of the moments of levity she brought into their lives.
Dolores knew incredible heartache and loss during her long life having lost 10 children to miscarriage, stillbirth, and premature birth. Memorial gifts can be made to Caleb Ministries, a 501c3 organization that ministers to women and families who have lost a baby through miscarriage, stillbirth, and early-infant death at www.calebministries.org or Caleb Ministries, P.O. Box 2282, Matthews, NC 28106.
There will be a private graveside ceremony followed by a Celebration of Life Service at Harundale Presbyterian Church in Glen Burnie, MD on Saturday, February 8th at 1 PM. All who knew and loved her are invited to attend and share their memories of how Dolores touched their lives.
