We’re neighbors in the Waterford ‘hood; we’ve enjoyed a neighborhood party or two with Chris and Lucy over the years! A deep memory will always be Chris’ big, strong, but oh-so-gentle smile and presence, whenever we’d see him at a block party! ... moreWe’re neighbors in the Waterford ‘hood; we’ve enjoyed a neighborhood party or two with Chris and Lucy over the years! To help us get settled in Chris drove the 500+ miles from El Dorado Hills to San Diego towing his trailer filled with some of Sarah's furniture and a new dining table and side table set built by Lucy.
Shortly after arriving in SD Chris, Lucy, Sarah and I lugged the furniture from the garage to the elevator and up to our 5th story apartment. Once we had finished unloading we all jumped back into the Sequoia towing the now empty trailer to check out a couch Sarah had found online.
Chris pulled up to the storage unit where the owner was keeping the couch and the girls jumped out of the car. Right after the girls stepped out Chris and I hashed out our negotiation plan for the couch. We jumped out of the car and stepped inside the building then walked up a set of stairs leading us to the unit where the owner had set the couch after removing it from the unit. Clearly they had spent some time getting the couch out. Sarah looked at the couch and was clearly pleased and expressed it verbally. She sat down and smiled at how soft it was. Next it was Chris and my turn to "evaluate." Up to this point we carefully maintained our stoic look. Chris plopped down on the couch which sunk a little as he dropped himself into the middle section. Chris then mentioned something about a lack of support and I looked over at the seller asking again about the price. After hearing the price I sat down next to Chris and similarly expressed some displeasure. Chris and I then fed off each other going back and forth about some aspects of the couch that displeased us. I recall looking over at Sarah's face and watching her heart sink as we built up reasons not to buy the couch. Finally we stood up and started negotiating with the seller on price. The seller buckled and agreed to give us the couch at a huge discount.
Chris and I quickly grabbed the couch scrambled down the stairs, loaded the couch into the trailer with the Anaya girls in tail, then sped off with our treasure. Sarah sat quiet in the car as Chris and I recapped the success of our plan to Sarah who was very confused but pleased since we left with the couch. The plan had been to get the couch as long as Sarah was happy, but to work together to get the best price building up concern over any small issues we could find. We returned to the apartment, unloaded the couch and said our goodbyes as Chris and Lucy began the 500+ mile home. Chris was 100% there for Sarah and I that weekend and always. less

Chris made so many huge contributions to the fire service respiratory protection standards. Lucy and family, I want you to know that every SCBA in the US and North America was changed to better protection from excessive heat—and it was due to Chris Anaya’s persistence and hard work. Mostly, it was due to the love of his brother fire fighters.
We loved to hear him talk about his family and the fun times and memories you have. His laugh was so contagious and I miss his brotherhood. His brother fire fighters miss him every day and thank you for sharing him with us.

He was an excellent Firefighter that you could count on to help his fellow Firefighter if they were in trouble. He was always there to help me when I needed help building my home in Rescue. We became friends, and worked together trading labor on each others projects. Chris was a very strong devoted family man. He was so proud of his daughters Sara and Hanna,
and wife Lucy. His big smile, and laugh will be missed. Your at home with God now Chris, and your pain and suffering from your illness is no longer. You can look down on your family and be proud. God bless Chris, your friend Louie Motto. less
I am so glad Chris and I had the opportunity to visit Portugal and Spain with our awesome friends Fred, Robin, Paul, and Vickey. It was our first and only visit to Europe.
