After her protracted battle with cancer, Cecily Ann "Cookie" Balmores, 71, passed away on August 18th, 2020 in Rio Rancho, New Mexico.
Cecily was predeceased by her father, Donald E. Galbraith Sr., her mother, Lyda Christine Galbraith (Ransdell), and her brother, Steven Galbraith. She is survived by her son, Kelly Balmores and wife Dara; two daughters, Kim Balmores, Brandy Nicolas and husband Chris; her 8 grandchildren Kaeo, Brandon, Kekoa, Noelani, Kamdyn, Malia, Noah, and Zoey; 2 great grandchild Kainoa and Genesis; aunt, Sharon Ransdell of Arab, Alabama; brother Donald E. Galbraith Jr. and wife Lynn of Milton, Florida; brother Douglas Galbraith and wife Rion of Norman Oklahoma; her cousins, nieces, and nephews. Anyone who knew Cecily, knew that she was incredibly kind hearted. She had an immense passion for her work as a nurse for 40 years and was always a source of compassion.
Cecily was born on March 11, 1949 in Tulsa, OK. She grew up with three brothers, Donald Jr., Steven, and Douglas Galbraith.
Shortly after graduating high school, Cecily relocated to Koloa, Kauai, Hawaii, where she met former spouse Bernard Balmores and married in 1969. Cecily completed her nursing degree at Kauai Community College. She spent 26 years living and raising their three children on Kauai and had very fond and charished memories of her time there.
Cecily later moved to Milton, Florida where she was diagnosed with breast cancer in 2016, which she defeated, then in May 2018 was diagnosed with stage for colon cancer. She was dedicated to fighting her illness. She remained a brave, iron-willed woman, even throughout her final months.
Cecily requested to be cremated. Her ashes will be scattered at a later date. The family would especially like to thank the nurses, aide, doctors, and staff of Hospice of New Mexico, for their great work and loving care; the staff of the University of New Mexico Cancer Center and the Cancer Center of New Mexico for their constant, attentive treatment.
