Beth was raised in Maple Plain and is a 1984 Orono High School and 1988 graduate of the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire. She started her career in marketing and went on to start her own business, focusing on gardening and landscaping. She was known for her infectious smile and energy, being a hard worker, compassion for others, and love of dogs. She treasured her role as a mom to her four boys.

This is a remembrance of a very special time with Beth:
“Vegas baby, Vegas!”
That was our chant, when Beth and I took Tyler to Las Vegas. We stayed at the Mandalay Bay, a beautiful hotel with shops, restaurants, shows, sports book, gambling, lights, noise, and action. It was a mini city!
Then there were the swimming pools! Pools everywhere! There was the mellow pool, a pool for kids, a pool for adults. There was the “Lazy River” ride where you went around this super cool course on an inner tube. The “wave pool,” where an enormous wave was created every 8 minutes, big enough for you to body surf on. Tyler was in the water for hours!
We also walked down the Vegas strip to see the sites. One of the great ones was the Bellagio Fountains, where the fantastic water features were perfectly synchronized with different types of music. Just amazing! We went to Michael Jackson “ONE” Cirque du Soleil tribute show, the music, the dancing, and the acrobatics, people walking up the wall, coming down from the ceiling, amazing, simply spectacular.
It was great trip. We all had a wonderful time. And I will always treasure my memories of it.
“Vegas baby, Vegas!” less

She was a bright, joyful, dynamo - full of fun, completely generous, talented, and inspiring. We both loved raising boys, we were both Christians, and attended Woodridge. We both ended up with a "trailer baby" years later, when we thought we had left the baby years. We got to share sports, when Ryan was on a soccer team with Cole for a brief season. Beth did a few gardening projects for me with Bloom & Groom, with great confidence and ambition as she started up her business. Unfortunately, shortly after her divorce, I too found myself in the same situation, as my family fell apart, and I was divorced. It was during that time that we grew apart, because we were both trying to begin again, and I moved to a different community. Beth had many plates in the air, and I too know how sad and difficult it is, when your own failures cause you to drop the plates, but especially the main platter - your marriage and family. I know first-hand how alcoholism impacts relationships and families, in my own marriage, and I know how painful it is to watch someone so full of life and potential, lose a battle with addiction. It hurts so much, but I can tell you, God provides redeeming love, peace, and healing to all those left in the wake of it. You are right Logan, you are so lucky to have had those years with your vibrant, beautiful, loving mother. I know you will miss her so deeply, but she is always with you, as is the Holy Spirit within you, to provide strength, peace, and your very next step. She is now in the throneroom, face to face with her Lord and Savior. I hope that is a comfort to you every time you long for her presence and touch. I hope you all see glimpses of her every day, and in your own children you may have someday. She loved you with everything in her. less

When Tyler was 3 she went on a parents-only vacation down to San Jose del Cabo with Chris. I was down there for a month at the same time as her, I had my 3 year old with me and was pregnant. On her vacation she generously offered to babysit my child while my husband and I had dinner. She also brought our broken computer back to MN on her flight to get it fixed, since we were working remotely in Mexico. Beth was immensely thoughtful when sober. I’m sorry this disease took her. less

I had the privilege of babysitting / nannying for Logan, Ben & Cole. Over that time I developed a great relationship with Beth. She was thoughtful and generous. As I was going through a hard break up in college she gave me a CD she thought would encourage me. She told me I was her “blue bird of happiness” and gave me this figure I still have. She threw me a beautiful bridal shower when I got engaged and generously gave me a lot of baby gear and clothing when I had my first boy. I cherish these memories. less

I'm struggling to think of a single story that doesn't involve us laughing so hard that one or both of us would pee our pants. Perhaps that's not an appropriate thing to say here, but it illustrates Beth's great sense of humor. As others have stated more eloquently, Beth had a love for fun and adventure. We spent a lot of time outdoors, finding various creative/messy/dangerous ways to entertain ourselves. I have such great memories of Beth and I'm thankful for our time together.
I also remember Beth's strong love for animals, always snuggling the family pets. She had a kind, warm heart.
My heart goes out to Tyler, Ben, Cole, Logan, and all of Beth's friends and family. May Beth's bright spirit help us all through this unfathomably difficult time.

We had a special connection through her sister, Cathy, Woodridge Church, both being the mama to all boys - each of us having one a little "later". We knew many of the same people in Orono, mostly through the schools and our kids' sports. She'd come to hear me sing/play live music in various venues and she was always so encouraging. The photo I'm sharing was actually the last time I saw Beth. I was singing at Blackwater Coffee in Maple Plain (early 2011) as a farewell before our family moved to California. She showed up with a precious gift for me - a silver bracelet with virtues on each segment. I cried to receive it. Now I cry to wear it. God bless the Bergland/Johnson family. *Beth helping me launch my business (she told me that if I organized her kitchen and office that she would get me my second client. And that is exactly what happened!)
*Cole and Lukas' one very long playdate that lasted an entire summer.
*Beth compassionately and generously giving to us.
*When she'd fill in as "doctor" when needed!
*Our kids always wanting to eat at the Johnson's because Beth's cooking was "way better" than mine and they had the best snacks in the pantry.
*Beth crying with me during some of my most difficult times.
*Beth and I convinced that Logan and Reese gave us our first gray hairs...;)

We were Plainers. We met in elementary school and spent many summer days with the neighborhood kids riding bikes and heading to Lake Independence. She had an electric personality and could light up a room with her smile. She was funny and very gifted in many ways. She was a fantastic athlete. I can honestly say I was a bit envious of her ability. She was a fierce competitor but I don't know if she really knew how gifted she was with this. We were in a Bible study together in HS where I saw a softer and more vulnerable side to her. In 2015 my daughter got married. Beth and the girls volunteered to help me decorate and do flowers for the wedding. It was such a blessing! Here we are fooling around with the photo booth props. Ever the goofball oh Beth Ann! So devoted to your boys that you adored. We love you and will miss your presence on this earth. Until we meet again my friend. I am sure you will keep Jesus entertained. 💖

I probably could write a pretty long book about Beth and my relationship. Beth and I met when we were four years old. We grew up in the same neighborhood our parents were friends, we went to the same school and graduated together. We both played softball and volleyball. We were extremely close friends. She had a heart of gold and would do anything for anyone. She always made people feel very welcomed and always encouraged the best from everyone. When we were little girls we spent so much time together. We were at each others houses daily. Beth and I weren’t necessarily girls that played with Barbie dolls. We’d rather play baseball in the cul-de-sac, kick the can and night games, or rider bikes around Maple Plain for miles and miles. We shared many shenanigans, i.e. either running from the police on our mini bike, ding dong ditching or eventful sleepovers. We girlfriends used to tease Beth and call her out on her “Bethisms”. She liked to embellished or elaborate a bit on her stories. We had such a fabulous childhood. Beth was so talented! Her athletic abilities were incredible and I always looked up to her for her smarts. I am truly blessed to have had such a beautiful friendship that I will feel a void in my life from now on but I’ll be able to look back on these beautiful memories that we shared and remember the funny happy Beth that I loved! How lucky and blessed am I to have this special friend that makes saying good bye so hard. So thank you God for Beth!
I remember when Beth told me that she was pregnant for the first time she was so excited and that excitement grew with each boy. She loved being a “boy” mom so she was the queen of the house. She was extremely proud of her boys!
Logan, Ben, Cole and Tyler, the hardest part of losing your mom isn’t just having to say good bye, but rather learning to live without her physical presence but know she is always with you and you should still talk to her! A lot! She is always listening and will show you she is still with you by little special things, maybe a butterfly will circle you, you’ll hear a pretty chirping bird, a smell that reminds you of her, a song, or maybe she’ll place an object in your path that will make you think of her. She loves you so very much and would only want your lives to be the best that they can be. You boys are a beautiful legacy that Beth has left behind. Prove to her what a great job she did raising such amazing boys.
Beth’s life was truly beautiful just like she was. I wish her family and friends peace and comfort knowing she is with our Lord who she loved so much. Beth, your life was a blessing and your memory a treasure. Say “Hi” to Chad and give him a big hug for me!
Goodbyes are not forever. Goodbyes are not the end. They simply mean I’ll miss you, until we meet again!
I wish I could’ve saved you Beth, that will always be in my mind but I know the Lord had a different path for you. I LOVE YOU! less

My most sincere and deepest condolences for your loss. May our loving and merciful God grant you the Peace, consolation, and comfort that can only come from Him and it is beyond our understanding.
My fondest memory of Beth was while serving on a mission trip in the Dominican Republic. We were together in Kilo 9 serving a community of poor Haitians/Dominicans and Beth Generous Spirit and Kindness was in full display. She cared so well for those who she didn't even know. Later during the trip we learned that she was pregnant with Tyler and that news made the trip even more special. She was loving on so many children that were not her own.
During that same trip we missed our connecting flight in Miami and I just went ballistic and in full command mode. I remember Beth telling me in true Strengths Finder Fashion that her "Woo" was what we needed in that situation, not my "Command." She was right! She got us all the accommodations that we needed and more. Way to use your strengths Beth! You will truly be missed.
Love you all,
May the Lord Bless your entire family less
