It is with an extremely heavy heart that we share this remembrance of our brother, Barry. He passed away suddenly from COVID on December 18th, 2020 in Denver, Colorado. The devastation of this disease is relentless and we are still in shock that he has passed . He leaves behind his 13 year old son, Caleb, two sisters, Karen and Nancy, five nieces/nephews - Emily, Ryan, Abby, Benjamin and Megan, along with many other loving friends and family - including aunts, uncles and cousins from across the US and the world - China, Canada, Sweden, Taiwan, North Carolina, Louisiana, New Jersey, and Nevada.
Barry was born in Detroit, Michigan. His family moved several times before settling in Gainesville, Florida during his teenage years. He attended Oak Hall, graduating in 1983. He received his undergraduate degree from Guilford College and Masters of Public Administration from the University of Central Florida. Barry worked for over 20 years as a sales manager, and was most recently a senior manager in business development at Tradeshift.
As children, we moved around quite a bit and it wasn't always easy adjusting to new places. We thus spent a lot of time together as a family - hiking in the Smoky Mountains in Tennessee, playing board games, taking road trips across the US and going to China in 1980 to see all of our relatives. We of course shared a love of my mom's cooking and will always remember how much food Barry could eat - Peking duck, fried noodles, dumplings and baozis. We still remember you taking us to all your favorite places in Denver - Lao Wang Noodle House, Star Kitchen, Savory Vietnam and Sushi Den.
Caleb was the light of his life and the two of them were best buddies. Barry enjoyed nothing more than to spend time with Caleb - exploring new restaurants and traveling to Vail, Aspen, Mexico or just hanging out watching sports or playing video games.
Barry truly lived life to its fullest - he loved good food, wine, whiskey, travel, and nice cars, Whenever he was around, things were never dull - his sense of humor was infectious. He was the 'fun' uncle - "it was always a party when he was around" and he loved spending time with his nieces and nephews.
We will miss you so much, Barry. We love you always,
Karen and Nancy
