Aubrey Granville Bowen, our beloved husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather has passed away at the age of 86. Aubrey died on Saturday, October 10, 2020, at the residence he shares with his wife in Far Rockaway, NY. He is survived by his wife, daughters, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.
Aubrey was born on March 12, 1934, in Sri Lanka (while it was still under British rule) to Percy Granville Bowen and Mavis Bowen (who passed away when he was 12). Aubrey was the oldest of four children. His siblings are Blossom, Merrill, and Ray. He served in the Navy and after his service went on to marry, Grace Monica Josephine Bowen on June 18, 1959. Aubrey and Grace raised three daughters: Rose, Cynthia, and Jennifer. Aubrey & Monica have 7 grandchildren: Sheron, Ashan, Janice, Ishan, Angela, Shawn & Julian, and 4 great-grandchildren: Jordyn, Phoenix, Kiaan, and Zayan.
Aubrey worked for the United States Embassy in Sri Lanka for over 35 years as a mechanic and driver. Aubrey also spent many years serving the embassy overseas in Saudi Arabia during his tenure at the embassy. After retirement, Aubrey was granted the privilege of immigrating to the US with his wife as a reward for his years of dedicated service.
Aubrey was an enthusiast of Sri Lankan food, his family, and motorbikes. We like to think of him reborn in the form of his younger self, reunited with his lost loved ones. We believe he will be cruising the highways in heaven on his motorbike in no time, wearing his favorite Brut cologne, and looking forward to his next meal of rice and curry.
