Ann Louise Brambl, 76, of Fort Smith, passed away on February 23, 2021. She was born on December 19, 1944, in Fort Smith, Arkansas, to Leo and Mary Brambl. After attending University of Arkansas, she worked as a pharmacist in Fort Smith for many years.
A formidable tennis player, Ann was a Fort Smith Women’s Doubles Champion in tennis and a Mixed Doubles State Champion, and participated in national invitational championship competitions.
Ann’s love of travel and the natural world cannot be understated. She visited every continent, including Antarctica, and found adventure along the way, on land and sea. In particular, she loved all aspects of scuba diving— identifying rare species of fish off the coast of Indonesia, exploring the kelp forests of California, and searching for treasure in sunken ships of the Caribbean. Over the years, she went on dozens of lengthy excursions and made many friends in the diving community. Her most recent discovery was the wildlife of southern Africa. As an advocate for animal and environmental conservation, she was active in the Audubon Society and made significant contributions to the Monterey Bay Aquarium in California.
She is survived by her brother, Robert Brambl, her first cousins William Pride, Dan Brambl, and Carolyn Ramsey, her nephew Peter Brambl, and her great nephews Sean and Nico Brambl.
