We are grateful for each and every day we got to see his glowing smile, and for the lessons learned and all the jokes we shared. Affectionately referred to as “Andy” by family, friends, employees and customers, the 59 year-Old’s affable manner and staunch defence of his company in the face of external criticism from the KRA made him a colourful character in the betting industry.
Much beloved by all who knew him Andrew was a force whose influence transcended borders, industry and community. His immediate family, friends and the entire community will miss his infectious verve for life. Locally, Andy was best known as the CEO of Premier Bet Kenya where he led a family of 1,000 staff in identifying new models of sustainable development through betting. He was one of the longest serving operations manager for Editec, UK. You’ve all experienced Andy, his largeness, his enthusiasm, his greatness, his affinity with people and I think that’s what has been a driving force in his career and success. Andy defied security regulations and he would walk around the slums of Kibera and Kawangware to meet and greet the betters. Beyond his day-to-day work, Andy was recognised for his efforts to create more inclusive business models. He believed businesses could not be successful if they did not work to the benefit of the communities they represented. His passion for helping the disabled saw him work closely with the National council of people with disabilities to create a comprehensive strategy to employ disabled people at his outlets (shops). Andy believed in Kenya so much that he was in the process of taking up citizenship.
In 2018 in the middle of his career, Andy was diagnosed with heart failure and CA bladder, conditions he valiantly fought until his demise in the early hours of Thursday, 11thJune 2020. he was cremated on 14th. June 2020, his urn was placed at his home in Watamu Kenya.
Our dear Andy, at the seat of God you rest and in our hearts you will live forever. Till we meet again.
