Well, Alan is my brother. I knew him for a very long time - probably longer than anybody else here ;0). When he moved to San Luis Obispo (SLO) we didn't get together as much as when he lived in the Dallas area. As he approached retirement we started getting together more often. We would meet in Las Vegas at the CES show or in Arroyo Grande as we prepared our assault on Chumash Casino which usually ended in "Next time, oh yeah, Next time we will kick butt and take names". Never happened.
He would take the month sabbatical (see obit) and stay at Laszlo's family apartment in Budapest, sometimes spending all our time there (I usually stayed about 10 days) and other times visiting other countries . The photo I uploaded is from our Christmas 2017 trip. We always had a great time, thanks to Laszlo's generosity. THAT is a cool picture. Laszlo recognizes the trolley behind Alan as it is a traditional Christmas in Budapest.
He, as others have said here, had a good sense of humor. Since we have been so far apart geographically and he kept losing his phone and forgetting the password to get in his phone I only now am beginning to really realize he is no longer here. I miss him.
