Our family has had the pleasure of knowing Catherine as neighbors for the last 2.5 years. Natalie (and Catherine) have pet-sit for us a few times, because we could trust them so much. These days you can't always say you can trust your neighbors enough to be in your house, but we had no hesitation. Since Catherine and I were both part of the Dublin USD in some capacity, we did talk about school related items, naturally. Jokingly, I thought she was crazy for taking a role on the school board in such tumultuous times. But Catherine always had an air of responsibility about her, and she was the type of person who would take action if she could. Her actions spoke for her in so many aspects of life. Catherine didn't just talk the talk, she walked the walk. And she did it for others, tirelessly. So many days and nights she put in hours of work for the benefit of our children's future...I think she must have worked about 20 hrs/day. She must have been dog-tired, but she didn't let it show. She was courageous enough to make tough decisions that she knew wouldn't be popular, but knew had to be made for the long-term benefit. She would forewarn us as neighbors that there might be protestors or negative comments because of a vote she had to make. She was right, and she would shoulder that burden with her quiet strength. Catherine could have easily taken jobs without the immense social pressure, but she sacrificed her comfort for the greater good. Aside from all that, she was constantly wondering what else could be done for the kids, especially during COVID-19 distance learning. She reached out for ideas to support them, as well as other groups outside of school that need social support. She was not afraid to put herself out there and speak up for what is right; she did it diplomatically and responsibly, but also with strength and conviction. It was easy to admire and respect Catherine after getting to know her as a person. We also adored that she participated in fostering cats and helped them find forever homes. Catherine admitted she didn't take as much time out for herself as she should, which I'm sure was because the demands on her were high, and she took more pleasure in knowing her work was making a positive difference for the community at large. It was a frequent sacrifice she made without complaint. We hope Catherine's family will find comfort in the loving memories, and in knowing how much she imprinted on all of us. We are better for having known her, and we are fortunate to have her live on through her family as well as through the school district. I truly believe it is our responsibility to embody Catherine's spirit and carry on her legacy. She will be forever in our hearts. ❤
