I am very sad. Professor Eke was my Ph.D. advisor, as well as my mentor for life. I am very fortunate to have met him in my life on this earth, and in his actions, he has shown me what is kind and love. It was his guidance, patience, and encouragement that supported me through my Ph.D. years. I remember the days when we met and discussed research ideas and my findings in his office. Every time I got stuck, he guided me back to the right track. He guided me to pursue the unknown with great joy. He laid down his life to help his students grow. He spent countless hours with me patiently to help improve my writings. I am very blessed to be the last Ph.D. student under the supervision of Professor Eke. Even after I graduated and left Davis, he continued to care for me and my family and checked on how we were doing. He has always been there when I share stories in my life and when I seek his wisdom for dealing with challenges. In my mother tongue, there is a saying “一日为师,终身为父”, which translate to “Be a teacher for a day and be a father for life”. Professor Eke is more than a father to me and my family.
