Family, Brother, Mentor, and Friend.

Pancho had asked me over 20 years ago, "Is a House an Asset or a Liability?" He had asked me this question for months, over and over, as I consistently responded with the wrong answers and flippant explanations of why I thought a house was an asset. I can hear his words in my head as clear as day "Ah please, you don't get it, you will never be successful in life if you think this way, you must change your mindset." He had bought this course on cassette tapes from this unknown author at the time named Robert Kiyosaki, "Rich Dad, Poor Dad." This course sat shrink-wrapped and unopened on his desk for months. He would display it prominently to provoke me to ask him what this course was about and why he had not opened it as of yet. The day I finally asked him, he almost could not wait (through a yawn, mind you) to explain it was some real estate course that he heard about and that maybe I give it a listen. In retrospect, I now realize the course he had bought was for ME as he had somehow determined that real estate would be the right career path. He would not admit he had bought it with the intention for me to take the course. Instead, he said I could "borrow" it and to let him know my thoughts on the premise of the course. 20 yrs later and 1000's of discussions about real estate, the opportunity to sell millions of dollars of his home residences and building our first project was the launching pad to become one of the top 10% of all agents in the country in sales volume alongside my other best friend and mentor, Dana Olmes. Pancho was full of questions, and this ONE question changed the trajectory of my life and provided a living for my family. I am forever grateful.

Pancho, you were the asset, and a house is a liability.

If I could only hear him say one more time, "Ah F*ck."
