I will profoudly miss Joan Carney. A second mother to me and my sister, Shira, best friend to my mom, Adele, and tremendous human. Joan was a rock of our upper west side childhood, an advocate for high quality and integrated public schools, she was an elegant hostess, loyal friend, creative spirit, gifted writer and deep thinker.
