Steve Shook's Album: Wall Photos

Jamie was a rare find for me... a person I could speak to about independent music (both playing and producing) as well as my own life-long passion: skateboarding. Though I am from Maryland, I am very much educated in the twin cultures of Texas punk and Texas skateboarding, so Jamie and I spoke a similar vernacular whenever he was up visiting Joni and Rick. I very much looked forward to his visits up North so we could talk our own particular brand of turkey. One day about a year or so ago, out of nowhere, a package had shown up at my house that contained a treasure trove of underground Texas music, artwork and literature (from Jamie of course - see the attached photo). I was bowled over by this gesture... it's not something that happens to me every day. I cherished these totems then and I sure as hell cherish them now. A gift that came from nowhere else but from the fountain of pure kindness is how I choose to remember Jamie. I only wish we'd had more of these rap sessions, and I am sure all of you feel the same. Much love to the Srallas from the Shooks.
