I first met Megan at Fidelis Way, a place that to me has always meant friendship. Fidelis Way is where my friends in the Sant’Egidio Community and I visited our elder friends who lived there, spending afternoons in the community room talking, sharing stories, and laughing over coffee and snacks. Megan would also join in and when we started an evening prayer in the community room she would come faithfully to that, too. Like so many who had the pleasure and privilege of meeting Megan, I was impressed by her strong spirit, sense of humor, infectious laugh, and big, bright smile.

Early in our friendship, Megan and I would visit at Fidelis Way and had great conversations. When it became more difficult for her to communicate verbally, I found myself worrying about how we would be able to visit and talk. But, Megan taught me that in friendship barriers can be overcome and new ways of communicating can be found.

When my wife, Tibrine, and I accepted a job to live and work in Ecuador for a couple of years, Megan gifted us a small piece of wood carved into the shape of heart. This small gesture was a way of her saying to us to carry our friendship with us wherever we go. My wife and I were also blessed to have Megan join us at our wedding. And ever the gifted artist, she painted a beautiful watercolor painting for us.

These days, since hearing of her passing, we’ve been revisiting warm memories of our friendship with Megan and rejoicing in the wonderful life that she had. We are grateful to have known her and will cherish her life that enriched ours.

With deep gratitude for Megan's life and friendship,
David & Tibrine
