In summer of ‘18, Alan was eager to visit Homer. I was astonished to hear him say that, because his declining health had made him stop going to St. Louis (two hours driving from our home) two or three years earlier.
Alan shared with me many memories from their young adulthoods, but he didn’t talk about their close childhood relationships until we lost Homer.
This is the first time in my twenty-seven years of marriage I realized they had warm brother relationships. Now I understand more why Alan badly wanted to visit Homer at the time of their nineties.
During our visit, by chance, we had a memorable gathering with John’s family, Rita, Matt and his girlfriend Leslie and newlywed Fletcher and Sally.
Rita and I asked Homer,What is the secret of your doing so well at age of ninety-five? After some moments, he said, Lynn is my secret.
At that time I never imagined Homer’s life could end so soon. Homer, you left a lovely family and you had an amazing long life.
