Grandma, you were our queen. You set a beautiful standard of love. You accepted others as they were. You carried yourself with such dignity yet you were also so humble. You worked hard and were not afraid to try new things and have new adventures! You strove to be all that God wanted you to be until the very end and this is something that I too want to emulate. No one can replace you in our hearts and we will do our best to keep your legacy alive! Here are some words that came straight to me as soon as I learned you had passed.

Beautiful Grandma Braithwaite

Beautiful Grandma Braithwaite
has laid her head to rest
Set down her crown after 91 years
Our queen, we were so blessed!

Her words of affirmation,
her warmth and childlike fun
Her ‘spick and span’, no ‘can’t’s only ‘can’s
Just a small part of her legacy begun

Such a true woman of beauty ❤️
Sweet yet strong all in one
She carried herself with such dignity and poise
In her heart always carried a song

“I never promised you a rose garden,”
“My Maker and my King”
Just two of the many many songs I recall
She would always joyfully sing

Her ducana and fungi,
cornmeal porridge, and bakes,
Spinach lasagne, fudge and cakes, was there anything she couldn’t make?

So creative and great with her hands
Diligent and so dexterous
From making clothes to curtains and cushions
Like the Proverbs woman, so industrious

But what I’ll remember the most
is the love she and Grandpa shared
Her unwavering devotion to being his wife
Their example of love; a jewel so rare.

Such a legacy of love they have left
Giving hope to generations to come
That when God is your first love
Together your love has won

For all the family she loved,
And the many she adopted as such
Let’s carry on her legacy,
Loving God and each other so much.

For I know she will be looking
For you and I that day,
When Jesus comes to take her home
And gives her a crown for always!
