Willie greeted passengers with his signature smile and positive spirit. He was a master conversationalist, connecting with passengers over shared interests (especially football, cars, and racing) and following up on details of our lives, even those mentioned in passing. He genuinely loved interacting with people and often spoke of how much he enjoyed the variety of individuals -including many famous people- he met through his work. Willie dedicated many years of his life towards public service, first as a mail delivery person for the U.S. Postal Service before joining us at the Board.
He was a bright spot in everyone's day. Many of us had the pleasure of spending time with Willie on the shuttle every single day, often multiple times a day. His kindness and warmth added hundreds of hours of positivity and connection to the days of thousands of Board staff over the years. He will be sorely missed.

He had an excitement for sports and racing like no other. He'd often talk about his son's musical abilities, his retirement plans for he and his wife, drag racing, and would ask about my plans to visit my family back at home. I don't remember ever seeing Willie without a smile or a story. My thoughts and prayers are with his family. Willie will truly be missed by many. less

He knew about my family's moves, the important events in my life, and many of my opinions, and I heard these same kinds of things about him. He was proud of his family, and always dreaming about some fast car he might buy. In five to ten minute bursts, a few times a day when I was in DC, I probably spent more time talking about real stuff with Willie than with anyone else at the Board. His loss is heartbreaking to me, and I expect quite a few of us. less
I'm quite saddened to hear about the passing of Willie. He always greeted me with a warm smile and was extraordinarily kind and courteous. I will miss him. His family and friends are in my thoughts.
Willie was the most delightful man. He got to know every Board employee on a first-name basis, greeted us warmly, and was a great conversationalist. My deepest sympathies to his family. This is a huge loss for them and for the Board.

One night I was returning to the Eccles building late after attending a Board sponsored evening event. When Willie picked me up at I Square and found out I needed to get back to Eccles, he went out of his way to get me safely back to Eccles even though it was time for him close out his work day. I was so grateful that night. Willie you will be missed! less
My prayers and deepest sympathies go out to Willie's family and friends. He always spoke very highly of you. He had a way of making people feel at ease and brought such positive energy to his job. He will be missed!

When I got word that my granddaughters were born a few years ago, I left work early to see the new family in the hospital. Willy was driving. As he took me to the metro I had to share my good news with him. He reacted with such excitement and gladness for me that I always felt he had a role in their arrival. Over the years since, he asked regularly how my little girls were doing and was enthusiastic about the pictures I showed him. I appreciated the support he showed in that most happy but overwhelming time. I will miss him.
To Willie's family and friends, I offer sympathy on their loss. I hope that good memories will help comfort them. less

He made it a point to get to know each and everyone of us by name and was always cheerful, which made riding his shuttle a bright spot in any day. He would light up when he spoke of his family. You knew he loved them all very much and he would have a special twinkle in his eye when he spoke of his wife and his son, of whom he was very proud. Praying for peace for you all during this extremely difficult time. less

Willie, I just saw you a few weeks ago, hard to believe that you are gone. You were like a ray of sunshine on an otherwise dreary day. I enjoyed our many talks over the years, riding the shuttle will not be the same. My deepest condolences to your family.
