Willie E. Dyer ascended to the peaceful embrace of our heavenly father on July 5, 2021, in Atlanta, GA. She was the last of her siblings to meet her final rest. She was preceded in death by her mother and father, her son Michael E. Dyer, and her siblings, Cleopatra Harris, George Harris, Freddie Fordham, and Woodrow Harris.
Willie Ethel Dyer was born September 4, 1942, in Clarksdale, Mississippi, to Alberta and Gid Harris. The family later relocated to Kansas City, KS., where she attended elementary and high school. Willie was an exceptional student during her scholastic years. The local newspaper showcased her in an article for winning a spelling bee. She completed her education at Sumner High School.
Willie began her walk with God at Salem Baptist Church and was later baptized at Pleasant Green Baptist Church. She made her final church home at New Birth Missionary Baptist Church in Atlanta, GA. Faith and family were the core guiding principles by which she lived her life.
Willie established her home on Cleveland Ave in Kansas City, KS., where she raised her five children, Harla, Anthony, Brian, Michael, and Glenn. She was a favorite on the block with the children in the neighborhood and was affectionately known as "Ms. Puddin".
Willie's early work career was spent at the Internal Revenue Service and the Leavenworth KS DMV. She later began working at the General Motors Fairfax plant, where she stayed for 18 years and was promoted to being one of the first female managers. She returned to the Internal Revenue Service and completed her career in 1998.
Willie loved to shop and was an avid reader. She also thoroughly enjoyed the time she spent with her family, especially her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She was a devoted mother, grandmother, and aunt, and one of her family's biggest cheerleaders. No matter the milestone, she was front and center to celebrate, support, or help. Her door was always open with a special poundcake, home cooked meal, a compliment, a correction, a prayer, a joke, and most importantly love. Her precocious young-at-heart spirit, wicked sense of humor, and no-nonsense attitude endeared her to most everyone who knew her. She was a huge spirit who will be dearly missed.
She leaves to cherish her memory: her daughter Harla Y. Major, Atlanta, GA; Anthony D. Dyer, Kansas City, KS; Brian K. Dyer, Kansas City, KS; Glenn E. Dyer, Atlanta, GA, and a host of grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, family members and friends.
