Becky and I have been good friends with Warren for over 30 years, since I became a member of Bretton Woods golf club. We not only played golf regularly, we have gone on golf outings almost every year to North Carolina, Virginia, Maryland, Pennsylvania,... moreBecky and I have been good friends with Warren for over 30 years, since I became a member of Bretton Woods golf club. We not only played golf regularly, we have gone on golf outings almost every year to North Carolina, Virginia, Maryland, Pennsylvania, and Maine. We’ve been partners in many team competitions either as a pair or as a team with family, Doug and our son, John. We liked playing with Warren not only because he was a good player and we won many tournaments together but also because we enjoyed his company and valued his friendship. As a friend he was kind, generous, concerned, helpful and also infectiously enthusiastic, happy, and fun. I’ve never seen him lose his temper or be in a bad mood.
One reason we admired Warren was because he was very dedicated to his family. He was so proud of them and talked about them all the time. He brought his friends and family together for many and any occasion and we felt like family to him too. He invited us to his house or to lunch and dinner out with his family during holidays or super bowls or any occasion that he can think of.
He was also very active in the community and was involved in so many charitable activities and fundraisers, and ceremonies to recognize important achievements and milestones and we always joined him when he invited us to these events. He had a special affinity for Filipinos and we all loved and respected him and appreciated his friendship. He enjoyed Filipino food and desserts especially the icy halo-halo. Becky used to be worried when we brought him Filipino treats because it might not be good for him to consume too much of it.
Even after we retired and relocated to the Philippines, we kept in touch through facetime and even played online bridge once or twice. We’ve been concerned about him the past two years because he was so active and adventurous and did not seem to let age and any physical limitations get in the way of what he wanted to do. When we visited him in the hospital last November he was his usual energetic, enthusiastic, talkative self, so we looked forward to his recovery and to spending more time with him. We are very sad that our Good Lord had other plans for Warren. It was too soon and too unexpected. We were not prepared to lose a wonderful friend like Warren. We will surely miss him and he will always be in our hearts and prayers. Our condolences and prayers for his big extended family – Carol, Doug, Wayde, Carla, Wayne, Denny and their families.
Rest in peace, Warren.
