I met ufe in the sixth grade. I had just moved from Nigeria to Calgary and my new school felt so strange. Unfamiliar. Ufe took me in, she was one of the first friends I made. And after time ufe and I’s friendship began to grow. She became my... moreUfe
I met ufe in the sixth grade. I had just moved from Nigeria to Calgary and my new school felt so strange. Unfamiliar. Ufe took me in, she was one of the first friends I made. And after time ufe and I’s friendship began to grow. She became my familiar in an unfamiliar place. She made me feel safe… not that that’s surprising, if you knew ufe you knew she did an extraordinary job at making sure the people she loved, the people she called her own, her friends, her family… she always made sure she felt safe. Even from a young age, even when we were kids(we are still kids) she always made sure we felt safe. Not just physically but Emotionally. Ufe was always the bravest person, the strongest person I knew. Heart of a lion. Tough yet kind. Ufe was a protector and advocator for the truth. She protected us(her friends) more times than many. She stood up for us when no else would. Not only was I privileged enough to know ufe but I was privileged enough to grow with her, to hit major milestones with her. As we all grew through the years ufe was always constant with her love and support for the people she loved. She never let anyone down. Never. Even when others did. Ufe always remained true and kind, because that was the person she was. She was big advocate for mental health, I think I’ll always remember that about her. She held me close and rubbed my back when anxiety was crawling in, she hugged me while I cried on school bathroom floors. She held seminars at our school chapel about mental health, urging people to speak up, reminding us all that we are never alone. That we are always loved.
Our ufe had the biggest heart. The purest soul. Our ufe was not only brilliant but artistic. The girl could turn anything into art. She would help us with our art projects whenever we needed it. I can’t possibly sum all that ufe was to us with words. Nothing I write will even amount to half of things ufe did for me, did for us. Ufe I will miss you. CCS will miss you. The Nigerian community will miss you. I’ll hold unto as many memories of you that I can . I’ll miss baking brownie at your house. I’ll miss our talks. I’ll miss your laugh. I’ll miss your smile. There is life beyond death. I’ll hold unto that. we will keep your memory alive. Forever in our hearts. To have known you ufe is to have loved you. We love you, in this life and the next. less
